My First PC

Well I've had PC's before, but this is the first PC I've ever built. I have a budget of 800 but my dad is covering me for the extra cash.

I got a free RAIDMAX Smilodon case from my brother, brand new, and these are the parts I'm planning on buying for it, I just need advice as to whether or not my build is decent or not. I'm extremely novice to the whole subject, I have been searching Newegg for a few months trying to build a decent PC based on reviews and such.

I hope that it's all compatible, if it isn't, I may just shoot myself :P

Everything looks good.

your just missing an operating system. Look for a cheap copy of Vista with a free upgrade to Windows 7.

Thanks a bunch guys
I think I'll go for 700, it would help to shave a few bucks off.
Id go between the two tbh, a pc power and cooling 750W silencer would easily run that rig, leave room for upgrades, and last a long time:

Second, i would go AMD over intel. Socket 775 is soon to be defuct, and is already essentially end of life. Your best off getting either a Core i5, Core i7, or a Phenom II.

Third, if you do go with an AMD system, get a 4870, faster than the GTS250 and AMD chipsets support crossfire but not sli. The GTS250 is essentially a 9800gtx and the 4870 beats it by a decent margin.

Then I'd have to change the rest of the stuff to cater to the different mobo/cpu, no?
You'd have to get a different motherboard and cpu, as far as case, power supply, hard drives, etc, no. Things i would change however would be GPU to a 4870(better bang for the buck), a Phenom II, An AM3 Motherboard, and DDR3 memory.

Also....The 9700 is a pretty old cooler that isnt that good anymore. If your looking for a good cooler check out the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme if you decide to go AMD, or the Prolimatech Megahalems for intel.

Get i5 750, it beats any Phenom II processors. And in gaming it even matches or sometimes beat i7 920

Well this is what I have, and I'm so surprised at how much I less it was than I'd expect:

incidentally, the cooler you recommended is no longer able to be purchased on Newegg.

With this PSU that was recommended:

Or possibly this one, it's cheap and it's off newegg so the shipping won't kill me:

And I really want to thank you guys :D It's hell trying to put this together, or at least for me it was. I hope it gets easier, because I hope to have a career in computers. I'm 16, I'm starting Cisco/HP IT classes this Friday. Again, thanks, and if anything looks wrong I'd really appreciate any criticisms.
