Hello everyone just wanted to introduce myself as a noob. but i have a question for you. I just picked up a very old computer which is a compaq presario model 7470. it works fine but it doesn't have any of todays technology like an ethernett port or a cd burner or dvd player. my question is, is it possible to go ahead and open the pc up and change all the hard drives, motherboards, ram, and also to add ports for ethernet without any issues? thanks

Hi and welcome to CF!

is it possible to go ahead and open the pc up and change all the hard drives, motherboards, ram, and also to add ports for ethernet without any issues? thanks

tbh its that old you would be best buying a complete new system,

if this from google is its specs

its pre-historic lol.

i suppose you could add memory, maybe buy a PCI ethernet adapter card but its still going to be old and slow.

yup that was the specs. I already have an updated pc but i figured i would be able to play with this one so that i can build it to my liking since it was free. but you might be right it might not be worth it

it realy isnt tbh my friend, does it even have any USB ports?

you could add a CD/DVD drive to it and but again its realy up to you if you want to.

I also having fun of working with old computers, bringing them back to life. but of course we cannot expect extraordinary from them. they are old and obsolete, once damaged we say GOOD Bye hehehe!

it does have usb ports.

 I am quite surprised. Well, you could add some new RAM, CD drive and hard drive, but they probably don't make processors for that motherboard anymore.

And as you say you wanted to replace the motherboard, that would be a whole new system anyway, just maybe salvaging the case.
