My fps is embarrassing. Is it my card?

Ok. So the new world of warcraft expansion, cataclysm, is coming soon and the game has had a major changes. The changes to my characters seem to be interesting but because of an fps of 1-6 the game is too frustrating to play.

The problem is most likely my graphics card but to be honesty I only have a small amount of knowledge when it comes to computers.

My current system is. Motherboard (AS Rock K10N78) / CPU (Athlon II X4 clocked at 2.9GHz) / RAM (DDR2 4GB) / Graphics card (onboard NVIDIA Geforce 8200 with a shared memory of 1GB).

At this point in time all I can find are the predicted cataclysm requirements. Intel Processor - Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz / Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ / NIVIDA Geforce GT 230 or Radeon HD 4650 / 2 GB

From what I can see it is only the graphics that are letting me down. I was planning on upgrading to Radeon HD 5750 or 5770. My questions are.

A. will this make any difference as I have read about others with the same problem doing the same thing and producing no positive results.

B. Is the card the best one to buy. Is it compatible with my motherboard? Would a NIVIDA card be better?

Thanks for any help any and sorry if I left out any necessary information.

my kids computer runs that game with no problem, its a 939 mach speed mobo, athlon 64 2.4ghz,2gb ram with a 7300gt 512mb video card.so i dout its your specs.

He's talking about the new requirements for the forthcoming Cataclysm expansion, not the current wow series

If you plan on gaming a lot then the HD5770 is a good choice, since it's a pretty fast card for it's current price on the market.
And yes 1) it will show a BIG difference in FPS corresponding to your current 8200 Geforce, trust me.
And yes 2) it is compatible with your motherboard model since it has PCI-Express 2.0

That is your problem for sure. Onboard graphics have always sucked for gaming and always will. Upgrading to a 8800GT or better will max settings. The real question is what power supply are you using?

there's laptops that have 5870 built in them.oh and dont forget the asus immensity motherboard that has onboard 5770.as technology progress onboard video is going to be just as good as a dedicated card.

A mobility HD5870 doesn't compare to a desktop 5870, it is basically a 5750. That and when saying integrated, it is desktop integrated he was on about, not laptop. Please show me a motherboard with integrated graphics that can play the latest and greatest, at full resolution, at full settings as well as a dedicated graphics card does, or render as well, or fold, or any other GPU intensive task.

And the immensity is a concept board, not one you can go out and buy, and there is a reason for that, which is the same reason that integrated will never, ever be as powerful as a graphics card. Those that require the power of a dedicated graphics card are in an extreme minority. The majority of people are casual users who want a cheap computer, and don't need lots of graphical processing power. It is cheaper to have no dedicated graphics card and instead use integrated, and it is cheaper again to have a weaker chip in there, like there is now, than to stick a gaming card in there, so it is easier and cheaper to produce, and for the end user to purchase
