Thank you for taking your time to look and telling me your opinions.

i have done my research on processors it seems to me that the dual cores are still having trouble with games so i wanted a good single core

Yes thats true, for now. In the very near future games will be utilized for dual core proecessors. Its not that they are bad now, just not the best. And with a high end dual core processor, like the +4800. It will perform very well in games now and in the future.

Yes but, the cores run at different speeds and it gets alot of games off time games like CSS lag alot with dual core Processors even higher end ones. And, the few games that do utilize dual core you have to dl a patch.

Ah, get the 4800+ instead. It is about the same speed as the Fx-55 and has two cores. Seriously, it would perform just as well with games that only utilize one core, and once you get games that utilize both, you are going to get better performance.

go with X2 4800+, dual core=the way of the future. Unless you REALLY rich and have enough money to buy an FX now and then another dual core once games are made for dual core...just go with the 4800+

An X2 would definitly be the smart thing to do. With a high priced processor like that, there wont be much in the way to hold you down. As long as the rest of your system is good.

Another good idea would be to downgrade to maybe an X2 4600+ or a 4400+ then upgrade to a 7900GTX. I think its worth the difference.

yes i was going to say that...you are already spending quite a bit...go ahead and get 7950gx2 after switching from fx55 to x2 4800+

id have to agree, dual core is definetly the way to go, as I see your going socket 939. If you were going AM2 amd, i would say get a cheap single core to last you until quad-core next year. In terms of general system performance, you'll be able to run everything you want with no problem on dual core. In terms of gaming, if a dual core cpu is not compatible, there's always the game option to utilize only one core (the majority of games nowadays have this option, as we're in an akward processor era stuck between single and dual core). As well, I have several friends with dual core processors who use this option on CSS to get rid of lag, and several others who simply keep the dual core settings and their games run beautifully. There's really no point in shelling that much cash out for half the performance, and i guaruntee you, by next year, 90% of games are going to be utilizing dual core to some degree, and then you'll be stuck with a "high-end" crappy single core that lags.

I would say this is your best bet, unless your doing really cpu intensive activity, you really dont need some crazy high-priced stuff like a 4800+. It's honostly worthless price/performance. Take a look at the opterons. From your choice of mobo, I'd say you'd definetly like to overclock, as the DFI lanparty is specifically made for this as well as in depth BIOS tuning. Look at the opteron 170. Much cheaper than your single core, is made as a server cpu which, from some weird twist of fate, is apparently the absolute best thing out there for games right now, and can easily overclock to 2.6 or 2.7 on stable aircooling.
Then with the extra cash your saving, get a nice zalman cpu and vga cooler and your performance will soar.

Just to make a final point, your gaming quality is really not based majorly on the CPU. Its your GPU that's going to make your game shine, and take away stress from the processor, reducing lag. That's why high end GPU's are in the $500-600 range. Definetly take a look at the EVGA 7900 GT, looking up comparisons and reviews on many computer sites you'll see that it is the most easily overclockable, and with 24 active pixel pipelines, it will blow your gaming performance out of the water. The fact that your going to by the excellent xi-fi xtreme will also take away from the strength needed by the processor to run games. Honostly, with anything close to your setup, you'll run anything you want at max or near-max settings.
