My Galaxy S2 X acting weird

Hey guys,

SGH-T989D is the model number... and I've had it for about 16~17 months now.

So... here's the detail:

When my phone restarts, it vibrates for a quick second, then shows the name, phone name, model number... blah blah, then goes onto the screen of the carrier name (Telus, in Canada), then shows the Samsung logo animation....

So, the problem goes that my phone sometimes, automatically restarts itself, and keeps vibrating for quick second, and doesn't stop (interval of, maybe every 2 seconds).

If I press the power button long enough, my phone begins to boot-up like normal times, but my phone freezes during the boot-up sequence, goes pitch black and goes back to the annoying vibrating mode. It keeps vibrating and won't start until I press the power button.

Cycle repeats, and basically I cannot boot-up my phone EVER. Either it is in its pitch-black mode, keep vibrating for a quick second and doesn't show anything. I removed the battery already and tried replacing it, but for some reason, the cycle REPEATS AGAIN!!!!

After 1 hour of repeated button pressing, it's finally back, but I don't know when it'll do that again. This is the 4th time already and getting worse.

Does anyone know the solution?

Thank you!

problem is back... it just keeps vibrating, no boot-up unless i press the power or volumne button, but still goes back to the vibrating mode 2 seconds in

Try going to the carrier store and have them take a look at it. There is not much that can be done on a phone.

If it were a computer the start would be test the power supply. So try a new battery maybe? After that would be remove any non necessary devices, so remove any cards, devices, bluetooth etc. Then it would be reset the CMOS, so try to reset it to factory specs maybe?

Telus (the carrier) won't do anything except suggest a new battery, which I doubt it is the case.

I removed the battery, and tried loading the phone while it is plugged into the power outlet. It has the same problem.

One thing I discovered though, is that it seems like the power button is being spammed for some reason? If I spam the power button as it boots up, it loads fine, but after I let go, turns off.

Strangely, my phone is working fine again, after the factory reset... but never know when the bug will strike again T_T

thanks for your help wolfe

what version of Android are you using? There may be a bug with your version. My galaxy s2 is running 4.0.4, so make sure you are at that or above.

It could simply be a broken/breaking power button from the sound of it.

Mine uses 4.0.3.

It is one of those stupid variant versions of the Galaxy S2 series... none of my other friends who does NOT own this variant version have this problem.

Right now, I took off the live wallpaper, deleted some apps, and seems to be working right now... T_T

thanks again

check for a OS update. That may fix the issue.

Also, don't use 3rd party apps unless you are absolutely sure they do what they claim and are not maleware (much teh same as computers).

Sounds like you fixed it removing some programs. So take care not to reinstall them again.

Pfft...silly Post-GB Android software. I'm still rocking a rooted 2.3.6 with CWMOD and loving it;)

Incidentally, a while back I had (almost) the same issue; constant reboot cycle regardless of what I did - normal restart, force shutdown, remove and re-insert battery. Turned out to be a bent USB prong in the charging port that was intermittently ever-so-slightly making contact with the lower part of the open space below it and grounding out. I took a precision screwdriver (like from an eyeglass repair kit) and gently pried the USB prong assembly upwards so it once again sat straight in the port.

If it happens again, might be worth a try - just be certain the phone is not charging and the battery is removed. Pressing and holding the power button to fully discharge any remaining juice before you do it isn't a bad idea either.

Just my .02

Yes, thank you for your help. I reset it to factory setting and it's been running for 2 days straight with no problem. :)

Yes I agree... I wish I kept my gingerbread OS, used to be much faster

I'l definitely keep this marked, in case it becomes useful in the future. Thanks!
