My gtx 560 won't let me shut my computer down :P

Hey there,

I have a gtx 560 (asus 1gb) running in my computer right now. I have encountered several problems with insanely low fps with the various drivers I have tried with the gpu, such as the 277.51 and 270.61 drivers. I have recently installed the 280.26 drivers for the gtx 560, and they work great for the games I play, as long as i don't shut down my computer. If I shut down (or restart) my computer, the 280.26 drivers will begin to perform erroneously and give me the same 'low fps' issue that I had with the other drivers for the card. If I reinstall the drivers after this happens, they will work again, but only until the next time I shutdown. Any ideas on how to fix or if you can relate please let me know anything about what you think might be happening after every shutdown.

Looking forward to any ideas,
Thanks

is this an overclocked card or anything, i know i had my chip-set overclocked () and when i had it a little too high my graphics would screw up, then if i reinstalled the driver it worked fine, it was really weird, idk it just seems a little similar.

reinstalling windows was an idea I was contemplating, but then while I was searching for this problem on this internet I found a person who had the exact same problem as me, and he tried reinstalling windows but it fixed nothing. I looked for the post again recently but I haven't been able to find it yet.

thanks for the help though :)

The box the card came in said it was DirectCU but all the card specifications are the defaults, so I would say it porbably isn't overclocked. also all my BIOS settings are at the factory setting

try completely pulling out the card, going into safe mode and removing the drivers and doing a driver cleaner program or whatever you're supposed to do to completely remove the stuff, then reinstall it, otherwise see if you can rma/doa the card.

did you do a clean installation of the 280 drivers? also honestly i had issues with them so i just decided to run a older driver
