I dont think this is normal...
please advise....

wow Roncharelspatton, I just looked over your posts and you have been posting JUNK just to get to 100 posts (you even admit it a few back)...your advise had NOTHING to do with the thread in the last few I have read.. You must be a child of 13 or so judging by the content of your posts. and looking at all your histoy EVERYTHING you ask in posts is easily answerd with the seach button or google. If your PSU was "shot" your hard drive would not get hot.

To Cybereclipse:

I would try a few more programs before you do anything else, I have seen alot of variation using diffrent programs, sometimes the tems are swaped, the cpu will regester and somehting else, I recomend trying Everest. that is prety hot for a hard drive. mine are 39 and 44. I know that everything runs hotter in laptops is your a laptop?.. so try a frw more programs and if they all say 80, then take a real measurment yourself. 80 is way to hot to be running all the time.. if it is running at that temp start backing stuff up cuz your drive will not last long at that temp. Let us know

I also agree... Do not base anything off Speedfan. Try something like PC Wizard, or software provided with your motherboard if such is avaliable. They tend to be much more accurate.

Have you actually felt of the hard drive to see if it is physically that hot.

Feel you HDD. I know older HDDs can get hot but 80C?!? Unless your HDD sensors broken, use PC Wizard.

I think somewhere on SpeedFan's website, it says someting about BIOS not allowing SpeedFan to access certain temperatures. Maybe this is the case. I would check BIOS because this is your best source. So your Hard Drive may not be cookin.

If your HDD is really 80C I wouldn't try actually touching it, thats about 176F. Not exactly something you'd want to slap your hand on to.

if it is at 80c which it probably isnt because it might just be a wrong reading i would get a HDD cooler.

:D haha ok false alarm...

i downloaded everest and it gave me a reading of 34C :thankgod:
i was about to take my hard drive out and cook some chicken nuggets....

Hard drive coolers do hardly anything (the ones with two tiny fans blowing in )

I have an HD cooler that does alot... cool my HDD from 32C load to 25C load. Its a 30CFM cooler. One fan blows in and one sucks out.

I agree with you if you get those "13 CFM" coolers. Otherwise I disagree

Would you put your hand on a kettle to feel the heat?....No, you wouldn't. You would feel the heat from about 5 - 10cm away, i think he/she SHOULD  know that.;)

Know what? :P Today I decided to see if my new video card was really running at 65-80C. Conclusion: Always have a cold bucket of water and a soundproof door on hand :D

haha...
