My HDD

When I attach my secondary hard drive. Into a different sata port on my mobo.
Opposed to the same one as my main hard drive is in.

My computer recognizes it. I try and back up files manually. It says copying over files. 60 minutes remaining. So I assume thats fine. It just takes forever. So I ended it. Every time that second hard drive is plugged in, when I start my computer up. It goes to like disk checking E: *second hard drive* and it was at 0% for a while. So I restarted my computer, and kept the second hard drive unplugged.

So now I need to know how to make it work properly.

Thanks.

Btw. What I mean by port is.

On my DS3 Theres 2 yellow squares, each have 2 sata ports on them. Then a purple square, with 2 sata ports on that one.
I keep my main HDD attached to one yellow sata port. Then my secondary HDD plugged into the other yellow square.

Thanks

Are you set for sata array or sata in the bios? Once you add a second drive in you also have to go to the boot order section and highlight "hard drives" and press enter there to call up the list of drives installed. This will show which drive is at the top of the list as the 1st drive that will be searched for when looking for the mbr. You should be seeing the second drive on the post screen as the #2 sata master.

That's the device order not the hard drive order seen in the menu that opens up where you can set which hard drive is first there. If your board has this you simply press the enter key when you have the "hard drives" highlighted by using one of the arrow keys. That will show both drives and cardbus reader if seen.

There you use the + or - key found on the numpad to bring the default drive with the OS to the top of the list. If your board also offers the F8 boot menu option seen next to the "press del now to enter bios setup" option you can disable cd rom as the first and assign your primary drive under hard drives. Then you only have one thing enabled with the OS drive as the first.
