My HP Computer won't boot up PLEASE HELP

My niece got on my laptop and loaded up the system recovery and i believe she must have shut off the computer during the "recovery" so now everytime i load up windows it says it's missing the hal.dll file and i need to re-install windows, ive insterted the cd and went to the installation i believe i was running windows media center edition, everytime i try to set up windows it says "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your compiter and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturuer-supplied diagnostic or steup program.

Setup cannot Continue. To quit setup, press F3"
i dont know what to do, please help someone..

THE PREVIOUS OS I WAS RUNNING WAS WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER EDITION, and all i have is a windows xp professional cd installation

Do you have a SATA hard drive? If so you will need to find the drivers for it. Place the drivers on a floppy disk if you can and once you boot off the XP CD press F6 to load the drivers off the floppy drive.

well hey guys THANKS FOR NOTHING!! woo this forum sucks a$$ i figured it out i went into the bios and disabled the SATA NATIVE HELP and it installed, but I DID IT WITHOUT YOU NERDY FUTURE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGINS!! wooo

You have to be one of the biggest morons ever. If you were putting the cd into reinstall you were going to overwrite your files anyway idiot! You have pissed us off now to where you will never get anyhelp from us ever. Oh ya the whole 40 year old virgin thing...
