My i7 2600k OC thread

ok so i finally have don my reading on oc'ing and decided to give it a try...

and so...

i followed the basic steps from this thread:

and i was able to get

@4.7ghz w/100mhz bus

but it was only peaking 4.7ghz... it was going as low as 3.7ghz... not sure why..

anybody wanna give me some tips? i would like to get more out of it... but if i bump up my multipliers/voltage, i start getting bsod
 
disable the turbo core, there are several other settings to change but idk what, also the i7 should be set to run at 8 threads, since it has 4 cores and 8 threads, since the +4 threads is the purpose of the extra 100 bucks you paid over the i5-2500k, do that and post you new speed/time
 
god i always hate seeing this stuff on here while on this pos, if only i could put windows on my dads 27'' imac w/ i7-860, hd 4850, and 12gb's ram (1333 i think)

and did you run it with all that open, might shave a little if you turn everything off, including the internet conection, virus stuff and all those things.

well all that shit will be on during normal operation... so why turn it off to shave a few fractions of a second?
 
just to throw in someone else's face trying to brag :D always fun shooting somebody down when they think they're all high and mighty saying ha, i got a under 2 minutes, my cpu is a best, what did you piece get, 70 secs, so suck on that mofo :D:P (and he goes) :eek::mad: (and mumbles crap)
 
so i had a crash after that last test... (while playing starcraft 2)
i guess 1.35v just wasnt enough (which i read that the typical 4.7ghz setup used 1.37), so i upped it to 1.37, ran a few more burn tests and it actually lowered the max temp to 80*
and it seems to be running fine now...
 
Try running Prime 95 for a few minutes. If there is any instability in your processor, it will find it.

EDIT: nice clocks by the way
 
i just ran it for 2 complete tests... i guess it took about 4 minutes tops... no problems

although i did see my temps hit as high as 87*
