My idea for modded computer...

I just thought of this, it's probably been done before...

What if you take and old 17" CRT and take the tube out, and then put an LCD in. Then use the extra space to build a computer. It would be an iPC!

I think I might try it, only I only have one LCD and I kinda like it the way it is.

Sounds like a good idea, Don't know if it would work though.

I can think of one problem already, CRT screens are curved, so, so is the case, LCD's are flat.

i dont think it would be possible? Because of how big the mobos are

i think you would need a pretty big CRT monitor case to get it all in.

the screen is fla but the screen will be reomved and the frame (which arent curved) will hold the lcd

nah, you could fit in a mico atx board in a 17inch ctr case

good idea, but can you pull it of :)

Edit: i only just got that the PohTayToez user name...very funny, is that from Samwise Gamgee by any chance

How about buying a cheap half size refrigerator, cut the door to accept a screen and open the door to access everything.:D

Cooling is taken care of as well

The front of the cover and the glass are curved, he'd have to take the whole of the front off to put the LCD in.

Yeah, Just use a MicroATX MOBO, I think it'd work with some minor mods... :P

17" CRT cases are pretty big...wouldn't be that hard to fit everything in there. Even a micro-ATX board like was mentioned.

I've got a 17" CRT in my room and it's HUUUUGE!
You could easily fit a Micro ATX MOBO in there, and a huge Zalman CPU cooler to make up for the poor airflow, You'd need some fans on it, obviously.

I'm looking at an old Dell CRT, and I know I could easily fit a micro ATX mobo in there, and possibly even a full ATX mobo. Also, I'm pretty sure that the curvature of the case is not enough to be a factor, but if it would be a problem I think I could easily find a flat screen CRT to do the job.

Anyway, I don't think this is a project I'll be doing anytime soon. I'd hate to spend the money, so right now it's just an idea.

i would worry about condensation ... i'm very wary with my oil cooled fridge PC

your idea sounds good to me, seems like it wouldn't be too challenging. PM me when you want to get started if I can give any advice.

i would drill loads of holes on the side of the monitor....But some already have a load of holes for ventilation anyway....mine only has some at the bottom shown here...

you could watercool it easially too, make some cut outs in the back and have a small pump/radiator. I always like the Buick heater core and fish tank pump combo. It's been good to me.

I think if/when I would do this, I would try and make it look like it was only a monitor as much as possible. It would be awesome to take it to a LAN party or something, and see people's confusion when I just set a monitor down and proceed to game.

yeah dude that was the idea behind my fridge PC, take it to a lan party (full of Monster in the fridge) and just put that sucker under the table I'm playing at. Think I'd win case mod?

I say do it man, even if it ends up not working out it would be a fun project.

I've been planning on a new build right before I go to college... something Core 2 Duo... and I think what I might do is wait until I have the money for it and make the iPC an awesome dual core machine.

What about speakers? If you truly wanted it to be a PC all in one unit, some mounted speakers would be nice. Maybe they could be mounted underneath or on the side towards the front.

Hmm... I have a monitor with side mounted speakers.... and now that I look at it, it may be more suited for what I have in mind.
