my keyboard wont work...help

i have an emachines t5234. my keyboard stopped working the other day, so i went out and bought a new one. i plugged it in and it still dont work, so i thought it was a defected one. took it back for another one and same thing. when i plug it in, the "installing new driver" message comes up, but just keeps spinning as if it cant find the driver to install and does nothing. my mouse still works fine. when i reboot, i can access the bios by hitting F2, so i know the motherboard port is working. the light on the keyboard lights up when i start the computer, and stays lit through the little bar progress thing when vista is loading. but as soon as the loading bar goes away and goes to the welcome page, the light turns off. ive done a scan for viruses as well and it has come back clean. this is all the info i know so far, so i hope somebody can help...thanks a bundle.

im going to be immature and ask how your typing this then?
but try running your computer in safe mode, or swapping the keyboard in the mouse port, incase the USB port is broke.

im typing this on my other computer. safe mode does the same thing, and it dont matter which port i use. ive tries all usb ports and the purple ps2 port, with different keyboards. any other suggestions?...thanks for the response

Please delete your other post.

What's the make/model of your old keyboard and new keyboard? Did it come with any discs?

Go to Start-->Run-->type in 'msconfig' and hit <enter>

In the Startup tab, click "Disable All". Then, in the Services tab, check Hide All Microsoft Services, then click "Disable All". Restart the computer and see if the keyboard is working. Then post back.

I'm guessing this keyboard is USB, not PS2, since it's trying to load drivers. After disabling all services like the above poster said, have you tried another USB port? Does the keyboard have install CDs or anything? It sounds like you need to wait for the drivers to install
