My laptop doesn't connect by wireless to my router

I have just re-insstalled Windows XP on my laptop. Before doing this, I was able to connect wirelessly to the internet in the usual way. Now, however, it makes no wireless connection (internet access is perfect with a wire - but I need to be able to use the laptop in wifi cafes etc).

Any tips on how to re-activate the wireless receiving gratefully received!

Is it seeing any networks and just not able to connect or does it not even show up for any type of wifi utility? You may just have to enable your wifi device in your network settings.

Have you tried connecting to a different network if you can see your network?

Most likely you need to install the wireless driver along with a few others that xp doesn't have drivers for. Look in device manager for any unknown devices or entries with yellow question marks by them.

I think the driver is missing

It looks to me, after struggling, that the driver is not on the XP installation disc.

Is it possible to download a driver from somewhere?

If you give us the make and model of laptop you have, we can direct you to the driver downloads.

I see a label which sys Model No : MIM2120 Notebook PC
This is in addition to the MD number I gave before.
Apart from a long S/N number (presumably serial number) those are the only numbers.
No sign of an MSN number.

I have been on to the medion site you linked and searched for 95564 (without the MD) where there is a WLAN driver for win XP. Not truly undestanding the terms - is this what I am needing?

Thanks for advice.

Ouch - more help please

I have just realised that I have no sound. The machine reports that I have no sound device. I have installed the sound driver that you listed, but silence reigns. Have you any more brilliant ideas?

Look in device manager and see if the driver installed proprerly. If not, it may have not been the right driver. If it gives error that the device cannot start, then it's a problem with the hardware.

Sure enough device manager showed that there was no drive present - but I looked at the files which had been downladed and found an "install" programme. I set this going and the drivers are now installed and working.

I then realised that the vieo drivers were missing, so I downloaded these from the medion site and installed them. Video drivers are now installed.

However, I cannot check that they work as I am currently holidaying in France staying in a beautiful 13th century chateau where I have no videos. I'll check it out when I return home next week.

Thank you for all your help - success is ours!

Gerald
