My laptop no longer recognizes battery

Hello everyone. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. After running the battery down the other night, I plugged in the computer and I got a flashing red light and an error message telling me that the computer does not recognize the battery. I'm pretty sure its the battery as I plugged in a different charger and still got the same message and I also removed the battery before plugging in the computer, to check that the jack was functioning properly, which it appears to be. Are their any other tests I should run before purchasing a new battery? Thanks for your input.

I had the same laptop and the same error. Please update the laptops bios. That's what I did and it fixed the issue.

Also, look on the battery and there should be a button you can press to chech how much life the battery has, it has like 4 or 5 lights in a row and dependind on how many light up, tells you how much life is left. However, before the 2 year mark, my battery did have to get replaced.

All five lights are lit up. I guess that means the battery is fine. Going to try top update my bios.

Yes, 5 lights means its a good battery. My bios was corrupted and giving the couldn't recognise battery on bootup. Once I updated the error was gone.

If the laptop is still under warranty, contact dell support. Still might have a bad battery though.
