My laptop wont start.

Right,
I turn my laptop on and it comes up with an error screen - like the one where you get into safe mode.
It has 2 options, one to 'start windows normally' This loads and brings me back to this page.
The other says 'Launch startup repare' or somthing like.
This takes about 10 mins to load and eventually takes me to a screen with 4 options, Restore C drive (This tells me to do a system restore which doesn't work either because I haven't stated a restore point >.< )
And the others dont work either.

When I start with my backup disk in it comes up with a screen with an error saying my C drive is either too small or doesn't exist...
Im kinda stuck as I tried everything.

Is there anything I can do??

it says 'Windows system restore' right?
That says that I havn't specified a restore point.. So it wont work :(
 
no insert the windows CD/DVD and lunch the setup, and it will let you chose between installing a fresh copy or repair your windows
by the way, can you go to Safe mode
or use the recovery CD shipped with the latpop

Sounds like its just buggered itself, which seems to happen worryingly often with laptops. I don't know this, maybe someone can answer, but can you attach a windows laptop to another computer via usb/firewire and then treat it as an external hard drive? I assume there must be a program to do this, I know with mac laptops you just hold down a button on the laptop as you switch it on and it appears on the attached computer as a h/d. Then you could copy all the stuff off the drive and then format the laptop and start again.

Of course its worth trying a 'repair windows' as described above, but I've never once had it work for me. Maybe thats just been bad luck, who knows...
 
Have heard of the plug and use as a HD on Mac's, especially iBook's (because they break so often), but never heard anything to do with Windows PC copying. If I could have found a program for using a Windows laptop as a HDD, I'd have it. My laptop has had to be restored so many times, but its an Acer, so all is explained. I ended up having to take out the HDD from the laptop, and put it into an external unit, then connect it to my desktop via USB. That's the easiest (and only way I can think of) to copy the data off it without access to Windows. Btw, if you're going to try this, beware that it will invalidate your warranty.

I dont have the windows vista CD though and I cant run the backup for some reason..

I think Ill just take it to the place I got it from and let them sort it out tbh.
Unless theres anything I can do without that disk?
 
I just tried the rescue data tool.
It came up with the error message,

The exeption Integer division by zero,
(0X0000094) occured in the application at the location 0X01534f93.
Click OK to terminate the programme.

Whats up with that? I have an external hard drive plugged in..
 
You can remove the HD from its tray and put it in a external 2.5 drive case and see if your files are still there.Copy them to your desktop then try to re-install your OS.You should have no problem finding a copy of your windows and your activation code should be on the bottom of the unit.

Good luck with it.Laptop HD are cheaper than they have ever been so if you want to UPGRADE to a larger HD,,and your older one shows up in a external drive,,,your all set.

BTW the external drive are only $7 bucks at newegg.Cheap enough everyone should have one.

Opps..O typed all that while you were typeing yours.

Sounds like your HD is corrupt.Who made it?Chances are you can send it back for full replacement under warrenty unless you bought it open box.

Check out Newegg for a new HD They had a WD 120 gid last week for $59

FWIW Samsung has always done me right.I had a HD that was 4 years old that came out of a computer pull.Was going to trash it and thought I would give them a call and see what if anything they could do for me.They gave me a return number and 5 days later I had a new HD in my hands.

Not bad at all.
 
Its just the one that came with the VAIO.
Its been working fine untill now :'(

Yes, provided you haven't done anything to invalidate the warranty (such as take the machine apart) they should replace the HDD under the warranty. Had this problem with a Sony I was fixing before. Just advised the friend to send it back to Sony, and he got a new computer and a HDD (and they backed up all his data from the broken HDD somehow!) He basically had a new machine with the old HDD (which was actually new). Try Sony, but if that doesn't work, buy a new one from Newegg or something. Remember that removing/replacing a HDD will invalidate a computers warranty.
