My mom's computer build

My mom is looking at new computers and I told her that building one is a much cheaper option. She and I came up with this for a computer build and I was wondering if you would make any adjustments. Keep in mind price CAN NOT go over $1000USD. Just the tower is needed, we have a monitor, keyboard, etc etc. She needs it to be reliable, and fast. She plays some games but none are very taxing, but would like it to be futureproof and have the capability to play games at a decent quality.

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059&Tpk=gigabyte+p35+ds3l - GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L ATX -$100 USD

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029 - Intel 2.66GHz e6750 -$192 USD

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074 - WD 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache -$75 USD

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 - Corsair XMS 2x 1GB 240pin DDR2 800 -$100 USD

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127284 - MSI 8600GTS -$150 USD

Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827106072 - Lite on 20x DVD-R 48x CD-R -$38 USD

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817139001 - Corsair 520W-$125 USD

Case: Undecided

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116056 - Windows xp home edition -$90 USD

Total: $829

This will be my second build, my first one is in my signature. My mom needs this pc ASAP so I need your opinions ASAP before she goes to Wal-Mart or Best-Buy.

Well there are several problems with the build, also here isn't other choice than changing the case ( is out of stock and no re-stock date is given), like what games does she play?

Too funny. You're killin' me, chupacabra.

where was the joke? if you had bother to read, you would know that her/his mom plays some games, but i guess you're just another noob who jumps into a thread without bothering to read

OK

FORGET THAT HDD

For like $60 you can get a 160 GB HDD that is 7200 and is PLENTY fast for your needs

Use the extra money you save on an eVGA GeForce 8600 GTS

I know you can find a cheaper Mobo as well

Whoa! No disrespect, of course. I have a mother as well. I'm sorry.

In fact, the term "noob" does not adequately describe my forum reading/posting abilities. They're limited. I'm actually deaf & blind. I'm using the latest Braille nVidia drivers to read and write the posts I submit into these threads (touchscreen monitor). How DARE you discriminate against a handicapped person. Now, I'm the victim. :(

I think the HDD is overkill. Get something with 250gb 10k rpm 16mb cache. You dont need a 200$ HDD.

Edit: Your ram is "out of stock" and expensive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034, 2 gigs, only 60$ after MIR(mail in rebate). Save another 70$.

Edit2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050 Get that MOBO, its quite acclaimed, little more, but its upgradalbe.

Hope its not too late!

The statistics you suggested on the harddrive are even more overkill than the one listed...

My mom says she wants to stick with the HDD for speed...

You also pointed out the same ram I had a question about in the first post I made. Is it compatable with Intel??

twolves is the 8600 gts worth the extra $80 in performance?

Also she plays games like ones you find on addictinggames.com and stuff, she gets them on the Comcast website. However she wants it to be somewhat futureproof so i figured getting an old $30 card would work at first but would be quickly outdated.

I appreciate humor but I need to get this build correct by tomorrow night, she will make her decision in less than 24 hours, so please refrain from making comments/discussion off the topic just to keep things relative and helpful. Thanks!

EDIT: I Don't know what she will do about the restock dates but let's just assume everything is in stock incase she is willing to wait for them.

K, lets begin, that hard drive isn't bad, but your mom won't notice the difference between a 10k and a 7.2k rpm hard drive, also each day the amount of space need increases.

Now the ram, you selected a 1gb stick only, which was overpriced at 130$ while by that amount of money you could get 4gb of ram or 2gb of good quality, now about the question of being compatible with intel, ... any ram is compatible with intel/amd AS LONG as the mother board supports it.

Now the video card, well that video card is weak, from a 1 to 10 1 being weak, it gets a 3 at best, if i were you i would at least get a 8600gt or a 7600gs/gt as a minimum.

Now for the last point, if you want i or somebody else can suggest a better build for the price and yet meet the budget and being able to play games like fear maxed.

Edit:
Now for mep916

Sorry if i offended you by what i said, also i didn't know you were deaf/blind ( if it wasn't a joke, like most people in this forum don't know) but that doesn't change the that you jumped ahead and didn't bother to read carefully the post.

Joking aside, the build looks okay. Your memory is compatible with the motherboard. Don't spend the money on the WD Raptor - you don't need it. Get a 7200 RPM SATA 16MB cache HD that fits your budget. At least 80 GB in size. Remember, with an OEM operating system, the product key is limited. Changing the motherboard, for example, could void the product key. If you don't make any significant hardware changes, the OS you have in mind should be fine. Have fun, and good luck with the build! :)

CPU: get a E6750 for an extra $20
DVD burner: get one with SATA.
GPU: personally see 8600GT or 2600XT as min. requirement
PSU: can also consider CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX

ok I'll let her know that the hard drive is really not necessary. And thanks for clearing up the RAM and OS questions. I guess putting a better video card in wouldn't be a bad idea but again, it doesn't NEED to be able to play FEAR maxed out. I don't have time to change the first post right now, but I will go with that 2gb for $70ish dollars and then I'll look at other video cards.

Ok I have updated the first post with your guys' suggestions, and total came to $822+ shipping. We have some lee way here and I feel that the 8600gt is plenty of power for now. The games she plays now she plays on a geforce 5200, with no lag or slow fps problems. However I guess it is good to have headroom for future games. t-minus 5-6 hours until she decides!

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813127031 - IP35-E LGA ATX -$100 USD

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115030 - Intel 2.66GHz e6750 -$176 USD

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144701 - WD 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache -$70 USD

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148008 - ASPIRE ATX 520W -$55 USD

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811701004 - VIGOR Xtreme -$63 USD -Can't change, Mom is set on it.

Hmm lets re-check the new/old things that could do better,

Mother board:
Not a bad choice but you might want a mother board with a P35 chipset, so it can support the upcoming 45mm processors, something like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059&Tpk=gigabyte+p35+ds3l

HDD:

Again not a bad choice, but for another 5 bucks you could get 320gb instead

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074

Power Supply:
Not a good choice, if you still need a power supply that comes with leds go for a rosewill like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182017

Case:
Not the best, but not the worst, the problem is that is out of stock, and here's a chance that it might never be again ( could be discontinued), so ask your mom to try to search for another just as a precaution

For 20 more bucks this is a better card and deal than the GT
