My mom's computer (cont.)

Ok, so at some point after reading suggestions I finally decided to scrap the idea of keeping parts of her old computer and just getting all new stuff. I don't know a lot about some "minor" details though. I don't know much about IDE vs. SATA, I don't know much about what is the appropriate amount of certain types of wiring to come off of the power supply, I don't know much about why my RAM should be 800 instead of 1066 but I'm sure some of you guys do so if you wouldn't mind, can you let me know if the following looks good?

Everything looks fine except the ram. It needs to be DDR2 1066 and not DDR2 800 because AM2+ CPUs use 1066. I'm not saying it could use DDR2 800 but then you're hindering the computer's speed. Also, SATA is faster than IDE and that's all you need to know. :) Same thing with the DDR2 800 and DDR2 1066. 1066 is faster than 800 and that's about all you need to know too lol. Good build though, you should be fine.

Personally, i would stick with the 800, because even with the 1066 the performance improvement is minimal thanks to higher latencies on the actual ram chips. Also 1066 has give me so much trouble. I don't believe in it anymore.

No kidding? Well I hadn't heard of that before. I guess stick with the 800 then OP, my bad.

Thanks guys....yeah I originally had 1066 but someone had talked me out of it. If anyone has any final thoughts let me know 'cause I'll probably buy it over the weekend. Thanks again....

looks good man, i would also stick with the 800mhz ram,its never caused me any trouble. you can always overclock the ram of you want, that ram is a good lil overclocker :)

See the thing with ram is that usually, the higher the clock speeds the higher the latency. According to some sites, they believe that in most cases ddr2 800 will outperform ddr 1066 and produce less heat, consume less power, and be more stable. Until we see ram chips clocked at 1066 with latencies like 3-3-3-3-10 it will almost be pointless to go for the faster speed.

RAM: Go for 2x 1GB or 2x 2GB. Dual channel running faster.
As far as speed concern, I don't see the major different for normal office application...
