My monitor is blinding me!

I am currently using a SONY LCD monitor (retails about $700) glossed over 19" and its really starting to burn my eyes. When im reading a page with too much white, its really starting to burn my eyes. Its like staring at a florescent lightbulb. I tried messing with the controls but I just ended up making the picture look horible. I then proceded to trying out a few yahoo widgets that claim to help relieve eye strain by tinting your monitor...... didnt work at all.

Anyone here have any suggestions?

The only real thing you can do with lcds is go into the setup option to lower the contrast and brightness levels there to some degree. Unlike crts you can only bring them down so far. Believe I know from blinding white screens in games like FEAR especially late at night! my retinas are burning!

i know the feeling all too well

the key is having sufficient ambient lighting in the room

long hours of computing in a dark room hurts your head BAD

ever notice the 'trippy' feeling you get after a LONG latenight computer session in a dark room?

everything starts looking flat, and you lose depth perception, it's really weird

can't be good for your eyes

best way i can decribe the feeling is you'll be looking at your computer, and then all of a sudden, the walls behind the monitor, and everything around you suddenly look like they're the same distance, like your surroundings are just a flat picture.

try sunglasses.

Actually lcds are supposed to be better for long term use with less eye strain according to the "experts"? But sun glasses would be more of a hamper once you get away from the screen in a dark room and see spots don't you think? crash! aw crap I didn't see the... boom!

just remember to take them off when you're done, lol. there's also those glare reducing glasses that are not dark. ambervision or something. remember those? took the strain off the eyes, but they weren't dark.
