 I started building my new computer parts, and now its almost done,
I will tell you what i have so far, and what else i need

-Connect 3D Radeon X850 XT Platinum / 256MB GDDR3 / PCI Express / Crossfire Ready / Dual DVI / VIVO / Video Card ($400)
-Ultra / X-Finity / 600-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI Ready / Titanium / Power Supply ($160)
-Western Digital / Raptor / 74GB / 10K/8MB/SATA-150 / Hard Drive ($220)
-OCZ PC-3200 DDR400 Platinum Edition 2GB(2X1024MB) Dual Channel ($330)

Thats it,,,, and its already, $1100. + monitor $500 (19' lcd)

now, i need motherboard and CPU, and I am done with my computer.
I want to buy the crossfire ready ati chipset motherboard,
-Asus A8R-MVP ($140)
soon i can get the crossfire edition video card to make crossfire, right?
well, please recommand me a better motherboard, if you know of any...
I am still not sure rather Sli is better than crossfire or not.

lastly, I need a CPU
I am thinking of getting FX-55 or x2 4800 for $999
Or if you know any CPU I can get, which can save me some money and perhaps have better performence, please leave me a comment.

Its my first computer, and i am not sure if i am on the right track.
Also, what operating system would be good for my computer?

Am i missing any important parts of the hardwares? I don't need sound card...

Thank you for reading it all.

will the system be used for gaming, graphics, video editing ??? and I think if your're into gaming you should drop in a decent Sound card also. Shouldn't cost you Much more!

At the moment Asus only has 1 model of mobo that supports crossfire. Right now crossfire has bugs so SLI is better as of now, eventually crossfire will catch up..in about 1/2 year, but SLI is still be better with direct x 9 cards. We will see what happens once directx10 is released but as of now SLI is much better because of less glitches, higher fps, better benchmarks, and the cards avaliable for Nvidia right now are on top. CPU wise for gaming (serious gaming) go with fx-55, but only after fx-60 is released because the price will drop. Aside from that you can get a Audigy 2 ZS, wont much much of a difference in your games but you will be able to have access to 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.

Omg why? A nice x2 3800+ or a cheaper single core San Diego will get the job done and you won't even tell the difference without benchmarking it.

Every half decent motherboard on the market should come with onboard multichannel sound.

Charles_Lee:
At the moment SLI is what you'd want to consider not crossfire, a higher end single card will do the job just fine though.

Well, both of his options were in the 900+ range, either the fx-55 or x2 4800. So i suggested the fx-55 for serious gaming, although the x2 will have the advantage in multi-threaded games. Aside from that i agree with you, the x2 3800+ will perform just as well as any other high end processor.

Do you really need an LCD? I have my flat screen CRT 19" for only $170, and it has best graphic I have seen so far.
maybe he goes to lan parties? and maybe he dont want a 40 pound moniter and they look cooler it doesnt seem like money is much of an object for him

No, he doesnt go to lan parties.....this computer will most likely be seeing CSS, it will be very unused compared to how it should be used. Aside from that he is building this very good pc so that he can *remain* somewhat up to date with pc's in the future.

I still don't know what to do, but I am planning to get that crossfire ready motherboard and my single video card for now... thanks for the comments.
I will wait and re consider about the cpu also...

+ I think LCD screens are worth it, I can see the difference between my monitor and same 19' crt monitor my brother has.

Well as long as u have a master card you'll be ok :)

Between them id get the X2 and not the 4800, either the 4200 or 4400 but thats me

Where are u getting this info?

Cuz there are games that will break a 3800 (ok not break it, but you can feel it getting pushed)
