Alright, Ive told you all that I wanted a server. Well, I traded my 19 inch wide, my logitech gaming mouse, my keyboard, and my pc for this

Intel Xeon @ 2.8 ghz HT Dual Core
1 gig Dual Channel DDR2 Ram
ATI Firegl V3100
2 80 gig sata2 hdds Raided
Philips DVD RW
Some strange CD Burner
gig ethernet
550 w/ psu

yea, I hope so..Im going to throw in a 7950GT Extreme Edition 512 DDR3, and Im going to buy a new mouse, keyboard, and another 19 inch wide..
 
My friends uncle is a Computer tech, and his friend foun it a junk store for 50$!! He then sold it to my friends uncle, who sold it to my friend for 150$, who then traded it to me for my pc.
 
WOW dont them Intel Xeons have like a 8mb L2 cache?
Wonder what their like vs a conroe... hmmmm

EDIT: is that a 5150 Xeon OC`d or.... ?

I worked on some Dell with duel Xeon's in it(HT so basically like quad processors) and 4GB RAM. That thing was FAST! I doubt the gamming performance would be quite at par with a comparable Pentium/Athlon processor, but it should be super stable.
 
nice, a great deal too! you could probably sell the parts seperate and double or triple the money it costed to get it
 
well, what do you guys think about me throwing in the video card and another gig of ram? I mean I want it to be a gaming server, and in 3 months Im throwing in another cpu with 2 zalman coolers
 
I know its a server, but I traded my gaming pc for it, and I need something thats gonna play games, so do you think I should trade the server back for my pc, or throw a vcard in it. Cause the servers my only pc right now
 
dude, he wants a gaming server. all he has to do is throw a new pci x16 card in there, and it will be kick ass. you know it will.

well, yes, the GPU would be one step towards a super gaming rig, but can you honestly say that the xeon in there will outperform a overclocked e6600 or the C2D extreme?

Obviously you traded your gaming rig for this> Out of interest, what specs was your gaming rig?

hmm. If that's your only computer now then I guess you will have to put a good VGA in there. I had the impression that it was a second computer for some reason.
 
well, I could buy a better gpu, my monitor back, my mouse and keyboard, (little stuff), and another gig of ram later, or I can upgrade my mobo, cpu, ram, and video card (wich I dont think I have enough money to do)
