im getting the Core 2 Duo e6400 :D
on overclock.net people seem to have gotten up to 3.4ghz at stock voltage and the only reason they stopped was because their memory couldn't handle it.

so the lowest priced processor isn't the best overclocker this time...
then again, it depends on what stepping i get (overclock.net steppings, not intel steppings) and how well i cool it. i think im going to get a freezer 7 pro... and if i find a way to spare a few extra bucks i'll get a big typhoon.

people are cooling these processors passively at stock frequency, or so im told.

we'll see what frequency i can get with the memory and afterward i'll try and lower the latencies.

Have fun with your new processor it should be faster then your old one. I would have gotten the E6600 with 2MB more of Cache for each core but that processor should be just fine.
 
What did you do with your previous system, and what happened to your 7900GTX?

If you run benchmarks and play games, I bet that your going to notice a decrease in performance because of the lower-end video card that you replaced.
 
Allendales are gonna be harder to OC than conroes because of there low multiplier, so you need a board that can run a high FSB for overclocking them. Remember, stock FSB is 266 mhz, times an 8X multiplier for the E6400. So to get 3400 Mhz your going to need your FSB at 425 Mhz. And if your chip is somehow capable of going 4 Ghz, you'll need your FSB at 500 Mhz. Intel systems set there RAM and FSB independently so you wont need to worry about stressing out your RAM, but reaching a high FSB should be your biggest concern. Lower your multiplier and see how high you can get, then go back and OC the chip.
 
im going to get an ASUS board... plenty of o/cing capability. ill check into that on overclock.net though.
also, the 7900gtx doesnt support HDR and FSAA at the same time.
i want an ATI anyways just because of the AVIVO video converter.
im definitely convinced that SLI is better but also that i don't want to use a dual card setup because it consumes too much electricity.
