My new system

you already have or you're still working on selling it?

not picking amd over intel or vice versa (and therefore not being a fanboy), but does the high score you had in super pi with your dell laptop influence you at all in going towards intel? just wondering... :P
I already sold it.

Well, i know that the X2 3800+ will perform better in most tasks, but the 930 is only $188, vs the X2's $296.

yes i would just stick with intel it should be just fine for gaming and multitasking and it is cheaper and still gets the job done might be slower sometimes but you will be saving money.

It does get a few hundred points higher on the CPU and Graphic portions of the 3DMark05 test, but im more interested in the real-life performance.

And im going to be using DDR2-800 memory, so that should also help it out.

It's not going to help it out as much as you seem to think.
I know it wont help out that much in games, bus it will still be significantly better than DDR2-667.

And i might still be able to use that with the Conroe.

Ok i just ordered my new system. See the specs in my sig.

The reason i went with a mediocre card is because i had to keep the computer around $1,000, and this way i can save up and get a top-of-the-line card such as the nVidia 8xxx series.

actually the amd 3800 + x2 is fastre than the intel extreme editon for gaming there is an artcle about it on czitnet

Wake up.

1. Most people who is buying the Extreme procs dont care much for gaming. More often stellar performance in tasks like 3dsmax and video encoding.

2. I wouldnt call the XE 965 a gaming slug, would you? Nor the 930. :)

Q4 is a game that truly benefits from dual cored chips.

Really? Thats just sad for Intel. I'm even planning to get the AMD x2 4200+ so if what you said is true I'm saving a lot of money compared to the Intel!
Saving?
I wouldnt buy such an expensive chip today considering the power available in a few months.

I really wanted your opinion Tweaker, since everyone else here is AMD fanboys.

lol sure but it wasnt that long ago you converted now was it. :P

All I can say is, with the Conroe & AMD's Socket-AM2 right around the corner, I'd wouldnt recommend anything but a low cost CPU today to avoid virtually immediate obsolescence. Having said this, the 930 is hard to beat for its price.

If you look at tests, the 930 outperforms the X2 3800+ in some tests.
3800+ is the better chip overall, but theres no rule without exceptions (one of which is the pricing). :)

And its not that bad in the gaming tests anyway.
It being able to play every game on the market is all that matters to me, I dont buy my hardware to 'play 3dmark'. :P

Yes but the 965's competitor is the mighty FX-60. :)

Thanks for pointing that out.

I know, but once i saw the 9xx benchmarks i knew that Intel was starting to catch up.

Thats one of the reasons i am staying away from the X2, and for $188 it's not much more expensive then an Athlon 64 3500+.

It's also nice to have DDR2-800 memory, since most likely i can still use this with the Conroe, and it will still be fairly fast.

Obviously, but it's also $108 more expensive :)

Thats what matters most to me also. But the 930 actually outperforms the X2 3800+ significantly in the 3DMark tests.

I got my new system today :D

Good news is everything works, i havent tried gaming yet, but my cpu idles at only 27-30C!!
