My noob 3rd attempt at building a computer!

My first attempt was like, and intel MB and a amd CPU, and all kinds of stuff that wouldnt fit together. My second is close to the one i am going to list here but i think slightly worse for about the same amount of money (both came out to 2k)

Im hoping that this would be good enough to run any game, even crysis! My plan is to buy an entire computer, (since the only thing i have is a laptop)

But im in the military and deployed and there is almost no way for me to get a little extra help in building a computer from either forums (most are blocked on our internet, and i bet this one will be blocked soon so i need info quick! lol) or from people i know who know alot about computers (and i know one, and he isnt the greatest).

Anyways, here it is. Any suggestions on making it cheaper without making it worse, or for improving it without making it too much more expensive. My max is probably about $3k but i thought my setup here was pretty spiffy.

Plus a mouse keyboard monitor and cd rom, but theres no point in putting those on here. Anyways, the entire thing comes out to $1,983

Some afterthoughts on this. Originally i had a quad core processor that ran at 2.4 ghz, but i figured quad core is not utilized too much yet, so i figured ill get the dual core with 3.0 ghz. They both cost the same though, and im really not sure at all whats faster or better or what.

Also with the memory, i had 4gigs of ddr2 memory, but i figured do i really need 4 gigs? So i changed it to 2 gigs of ddr3 memory which is apparently at least 200% better than ddr2 so i figure that also is a good upgrade.

And lastly, the video card. From what i have read the 8800 geforce ultra is the best, with the gtx slightly behind it. I originally had 2 9600 gts's but then i found out that it is not as good as the 8800 gtx. Well if i have the 9600's in sli, will they be better than one 8800 gtx? If so, would it be smarter to get two 8800 gtx's instead? I know it costs alot more though, but just for performance purposes per se.

And lastly lastly last, do i need more cooling? Like water cooling. Is that something i would have to see when i put my computer together and then make that decision, or can you tell from just what i have here if i would need better cooling or not?

Well thanks alot in advance for any help i can get from you guys and gals!

Sorry for the large wall of text to read :( ^_^

You know what's funny? Let's see...

1) E8400... that's in a 1 grand budget. He has 3

2) $500 for 4GB of RAM? LOL! That's CL3, with one cas of 4... what a rip..

3) A 700W would power that rig fine, and still have lotsa room to upgrade.

4) 8800GTS G92 is cheaper and faster than the GTX. Look up the MSI 8800GTS G92, it's $215 after rebates.

Wow ty for the info. I think I'll change my graphics card to the 8800gts g92 version, two of those I think ^_^. Hmm im not sure on the memory still. The one Reddevil listed looks good because of the very low latencies but Oscaryu said its a rip! oh no's!! Lol, so I'm still unsure of the memory. What others would anybody suggest?

As for the CPU, what would you suggest Oscaryu (or anybody). The one that Reddevil listed looks nice because of the 45nm and 3.0 ghz, but i dont know anything about what the "E8400" means. Also maybe a good quad core?

Any other upgrade suggestions? I was thinking that the 8800gtx was the best out there and i researched the gts g92 version and saw that its better. So any other helpfull tips like that would be appreciated! ^_^

When it comes to harddrives, i dont really need very many. I pretty much only collect music, and i put all that stuff on external harddrives since i get deployed i need my music to be able to follow me everywhere.

If you want two, you'll need the 780i.

Q9650... if not over your budget... E8400 is a 45nm dual core processor. The QX9650 is the best 45nm Quad core out in the market.

GTS G92 is your best bet...

Get a Raptor for the main drive, and a 500GB Western Digital/Seagate HDD for storing files on.

Make sure you get a motherboard capable of SLI if you're getting 2.

Cool everything looks good, but i got one more question.

I see alot of people saying they need a better processor to meet thier memory, or better memory to meet thier processor, or better mother board and such. What would be a good memory to match my processor?

Edit: I wont be able to buy this for 3 months till i get home. I hear (or read) that there is a new video card coming out which i might put in instead. Does anybody know of any other interesting things coming out soon that i might want to choose instead of what is out now?

Edit:Edit: When i say my noob 3rd attempt at building a computer, i mean my third wishlist. I havent actually bought 2 computer already incase anybody was thinking that lol.

Yeah, the processors, video cards, will definitely be different, probably other stuff too. There will be better stuff to buy, and if not better prices. We'll see what happens, hopefully Intel will actually release their quads.

All i gotta do is add The missing parts from my previous build. It comes out to
$2,892.92

The question is, are the parts in the barebones better than the ones i have.

Or the question is can anybody make it cheaper without making it less good? ^_^

I thank everybody for thier help so far you have helped out alot!

I would get better RAM and hard drive, a SATA DVD drive, but a cheaper processor. Hopefully by the time you buy the other 45nm quads will be out and you could get one of those.

I would also get the 3870x2 rather than SLI, but by the time you build it will all be different.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor ($239.99)
