first, i'm new here and i'm sry if this has been posted in the wrong place.
second, the computer is 8 years old, with no upgrades it has 96 megs of ram with a 20 gig hard drive and it has a pentium 2 processor. it's messed up to put it simply. my dad has auto-cad installed along with photoshop and we had kazaa, not the lite one, on it for a while. should this thing be messing up? if so what's causing it, spyware is probably the biggy but my dad thinks that the yahoo toolbar is the god of spyware removal and is blaming me for the whole thing. help would be severely appreciated,

t

First, i would download some good anti-spyware programs such as Ad-Aware and SpySweeper.

Second, i would run disk cleanup, disk defragmentor, and scan disk.

Also un-install any programs that you dont need.

This should help free up some space as well as make it run faster.

i don't really want to fix it (as it was crap from day one), he's blaming me for its messing up and he won't never let me download anything.....i mean anything in its most litteral sense, we have spybot seek and destroy and norton on our new one and he says "you'll just **** this one up too" and he went on a five minute rant because there was 2 illegal operations. plus i got on it the other day and it said "no os detected" so i'm really going to be in for it. is it possible that kazaa messed it up really bad?

so it's his fault as much as mine? (more of his i'd suppose, dunny how keyloggers can turn the tide of arguements)

Did you or he download stuff from Kazaa? More than likely if both of you downloaded stuff you should share the blame.

Where did keyloggers come in?

My advice backup any data and just reformat. And dont use kaaza.

Well if you can get into windows then you can get helped out in the security section. I only sugested a reformat becaues it said "no OS found".

he downloaded more than i did, i downloaded one song in a group of his and it was "my fault" the system messed up. i downloaded in total 17 songs, deleted them once i burned them to a cd and never downloaded the whole cd since it's easy to hide viruses and spyware in them. he, on the oter hand, downloaded everything bread and the doobie brothers have ever came out with. plus we had people pc dial-up, long boring painful death.he's an ass, an arrogant one at that. but, now that i've confirmed that it's his fault as much as mine, would buying a seperate hardrive (i can't use the old one because he wants to keep it and use [probably to make himself feel like jesus , never ,making any mistakes >:( ] ) and just saving things on there like knights online or videos without it being stored on the main hardrive?

Well, if you save something on a new hard drive it wont be on the original. So, yes, if I read your post correctly. You may want to solve the problem of not being able to find an OS too. Do you have an XP CD?

nah, we had 98. making things even more craptastic. so i can save and install the program onto the hardrive? for example i want to put halo onto it, i can hook the 2nd hard drive up to the computer(is there an exterior port for that?) and then install it to the second hardrive?

Wait.

So you have a newer computer and your dad doesn't want you to put stuff on the computer, so you want to get another hard drive to put on it, and then just put on your stuff and hook it up whenever you use it?

I'm sorry, I'm jsut having a hard time understanding your posts.

OK my bad I now see you have 98. Do you have a boot floppy? have you tried scanreg/ view backups/ restore to a backup before the problem started?
