ok, i plan(ned) on getting BFG 7800gtx but my parents think i need a 800$ moniter to make it look good. comparing hdtv on a regualer tv, saying how you wont see all the graphics because of not enough pixels...
i dont think so.

so if i dont win the battle, ill have to get a cheaper graphics card.
everything in the sig is the exept the 7800gtx.
but the thing is, they still think i need a moniter, but i can get a deal with a 19inch crt that will be fine...
any suggestions on a plan of attack or something i can prove to them that i dont need to upgrade to a thousand $ moniter.......

yes, tell them what the resolution of your monitor is. Its a heck of a lot higher than any old tube TV.

on my 17" i have 1280 x 1024, so the 19" will be able ot go higher. But depending on what resolution, the refresh rate may be lower
 
well... everything about a monitor is refresh rate and resolution.
your 19" dell will probably go up to 1600x1200, maybe even one step over it.

but.. a grafics card does nothing more than make the picture drawn on the monitor look nicer.

you can tell them that i have my 6800GT linked to a 1992 build 21" monitor, wich would cost about $40 now i think. and every game plays really good on it. :D

Indeed, explain to them that it will make a huge difference. You'll be able to not only max out the graphics on games such as FEAR making it look much better. Also such a video card will last you longer. I feel you parents however are telling you this because they don't wish to spend so much money on a card.

Yes but not with a pleasant refresh rate, but 12x10 @ 85Hz should be doable & the preferable setting there. IMO

tell them my 32" SONY Flat TV only has a resolution of 800X600 and it blows for everything cause I can't read shit on it.

Then tell them that a 19" monitor has better resolution than HD TV, as previously said it has a res of 1600X1200 while most HD plasmas have 1280X768
