OK here's my setup: Radeon 9600 (256MB), athlon 2400+, 512MB DDR RAM (PC2700).

My system should handle the game just fine but the game is 'laggy' even with it set to 640x480 and graphical settings to 'low'.

I find that the frame rate is very slow especially when it gets into the action.

I have run adaware and spybot S&D and done a complete virus scan.

Does anyone have an idea as to why my system is *bleep*ing-up?

Thanks in advance.

What game are we talking about here???

your video card is the problem a 9600 does not preform that well on Doom3 - i have a Geforce fx 5500 OC and it runs a bit faster then the 9600 and it can run doom3 well on medium settings on 1024x768 but when a monster pops up it lags so itll run well on low. So u cant expect much from a 9600 but u could try cleaning up your comp a little/defragmentating/check for spyware but that will only speed up your comp for a short period.

So what you're saying is that I'm 'doom'ed unless I get a better card?

I payed £97 for that radeon only 6 months ago. Bah!

1. You paid too much
2. Its hard to nail the bottleneck between the CPU and the videocard although i tend to lean towards the videocard

lagg

i would make sure my drivers are up to date as well as make sure that im running dierct "X" 9.0c and i am a big believer in having atleast 1 gig of ram and not the the value ram either and you might try rebooting ur computer before playing if you leave it on standby alot and close everything but the essentials this should help you some though Doom3 is a very demanding game
i doubt with-out a new graphics card your going to be satified though but atleast it should make it playable and you can go to control panel/system/advanced/settings/advanced to the virtual memory tab then click change and increase to 5ooo and it will tell you this is to high and give you a lower number to put in "do this" but, make them both the same exact number it has a higher number and a lower number make them the same and maybe Preatorian can shed a little more light on this subject for you than i can im just a gamer but this is what i done to reduce lag and it worked for me "goodluck".

doom3 being OpenGL based runs horribly be default on any ATI card. ATI's strength is in D3D, while Nvidia owns house in OGL. Assuming the bottleneck is your videocard and it's a 9600 that's not already a 9600XT you could try a vga bios flash to open some more power.

Ever heard of a handy dandy little invention called the PERIOD?

Remember the days when it was the other way around? ;)

When you have an annoying English teacher, a grammar fanatic for a dad, and two females in the house, sometimes you cant help it.

But the period helps to make things understandable, hence being able to help the person needing help more.

You know what my friends got an AMD Athlon 2400MHz, 512MB DDR and a Radeon 9600 Pro....It actually runs Doom3 on High Quality, but 800X600....the only problem was at the start of the game but then it actually got smoother (As in it got used to it :o) it should be able to run it....alright

It does support them but the game simply doesnt run as well on them.

Exactly.... Doom3 is an OpenGL game and GeForce's are great with that :) *As Cromewell pointed out*

Correct me if i'm wrong
You're not wrong, but I already said this on the first page :P I wouldn't expect great framerates on a 9600 but on Medium it should be very playable at 1024x768

Bobo
