My PC suddenly restarts.

Hi,

Can anyone help me with my PC?

I have a core2duo pc with 512 MB Ram. I am using Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.

The problem with my computer is that sometimes when I am doing any work on it as usual, it suddenly restarts.

It not only interrupts my work but I am afraid that my computer's hard disk can get crashed because of these sudden restarts.

I repaired my windows but the problem still persists.

I need urgent help on this.

Please help!:(

MEMORY - Download Memtest86 and run it overnight, look for any errors on that stick/sticks...

MEMORY2 - If you have 2 sticks of RAM, take one out, and run for a few hours, then vice versa.

MOTHERBOARD - I've had motherboards with overfilled/blown capacitors to restart at random times, look for some blown capacitors on your motherboard... if any.

what is your os if it is windows xp
upgrade to sp2
if windows vista try another version
or system restore.

I seriously doubt that'd help anything, if at all... Upgrading a service pack will not help... XP is already stable, and software related issues usually include freezes and BSOD's...

And I doubt he'll be wanting to spend $100 on another version of Vista Ultimate...

And remember, he has important files on there, so the 2nd and 3rd can't be done...

Trust me, I have seen software that causes a machine to instantly reboot... I'd still check hardware first, such as the PSU or RAM, but software can cause a computer to just restart. Hah, I know this is happening to one of my old PC's due to some drivers I have loaded.

Ah, that's new. Thanks for the tip :D

Driver corruption? ATI + Nvidia drivers? :P
