my pc been failing since last nite.Avira reported something but i didn't pay attention.I tried opening add/remove progz but it never display the installed program, since smarty uinstaller is there i use it but it also wont open.
After i reset it fails to boot hanging at the login screen, so i boot into safe mode, whether i load "SPTD.sys" or not my system hangs at the same place.
So i took out my HD and place in a win2000 system and scanned using Avira (removed 2 viruses) and Kaspersky (which found 0)..i also deleted the file "sptd.sys" from windows. but still my pc keeps on hanging...

any ideas ?

don't ask me to post hijack this logs because i cant even enter windows,i can't repair either, as my winxp cd broke.

Ahh sorry miss read ur post, could it be a possible HDD failure...?
I would back up your data either way just incase.

When ur HDD is in slave in ur 2000 PC have a look at the hidden BOOT.ini file in C:
Make sure eveything is ok in there and the possible virus u caught didnt change that.

i dont think so no..because windows2000 would have reported it(disk failure or disk read/write error).
im running a 5th scan now with NOD32 i'll see what happens

found a cd-rw 700..OMG
manage to log in but whatever application i run gives me this error "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"...odd
this pc is seriously damaged..thinking about reformating now..

EDIT : i found this http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108474
but this only explain for 1 app but in my case, all my application gives this

Yeah that sucks, what ever happened to ur PC hit it hard :/
I would make sure you just back up everything you need and then do a clean format just to be on the safe side.

so i backed up and format..Now my drive letters are reverse i have D:/windows/ and C:/data.
any ideas how to reverse the 2.the data partition shud be D

START>Control pannel>Admin tools>Computer management then in the left coloum click on Disk management. Then right click on a partition and go to Change drive letter and paths...

Could be a possible HDD failure? I`d download some diagnostic software from the HDD`s manufacture and see what happens.

Are you running two seperate HD's? Are the jumpers configured properly?

dude is this a joke ?..Its not possible of me to make a wrong jumper configuration, yes the are configured properly, as a matter of fact as i type this am using my main pc...like my bro said "windows just f**ked up"..lol
anyhows thanks all..even though i didn't want to resort to reformatting.
many thnaks

No joke, just checking;), im assuming you have sata drives then. I guess reformat is they way to go, just move all your data to another drive...

stick it back in the win2000 machine and transfer all the data to the hd in that... (if it can hold it all) and wish u the best of luck
