my pc won't turn on

Hi, a while ago i built my pc, it has been great but now it won't start. At first it started to freeze within windows, which was annoying. then it started to freeze within startup, which was worse. but now it won't start at all. i turn the switch on, the processor fan goes, the hard drive spins, makes a "thinking" noise, but there is no beep and startup. i could leave it for hours and it wouldn't do anything. it was suggested that it was the graphics card as it wasn't "posting". so i took it out, put it back and then it worked, but then stopped working. i then got another graphics, which i knew worked but i have come to no avail. Any ideas? its been 3 weeks now.

Do you know what led to these problems, windows freezing and all? Any new software/hardware added. I know this may sound kind of obvious, but I would make sure everything is firmly connected; cables inside and out, and all hardware is firmly and properly connected. After checking this, you could also try booting into safe mode.

Unless its a possessed computer (or running on batteries) I think was plugged in :).

Are you getting anything on your screen? Also, try going through and test each component individually - test out single RAM sticks in different slots, remove any unneeded PCI cards. Try removing all RAM and then the graphics card - either should cause a series of beeps (well, that's assuming you have your PC speaker connected). What are the computer specs?

its an amd athlon processor, but im not sure how fast, radeon graphics 128 mb, 120 gig hard drive and 256 ram in one slot.
i removed the ram, but it didn't notice as it didn't get to that stage of detection, but when i took out the graphics card it beeped once, which was different. ive unplugged everything and the plugged them all back in and it starts up, but once again freezes in start up.
i don't have much on my pc. no works or word, all the usuals, i did put on world of warcraft and it was fine with that, i had no problems.

and yes it is plugged in!!!

sorry yeti...i didn't realize you alread owned G K. missed your post. :P

you may want to check your PSU man. i had that problem and replaced it with something decent and it worked. try sticking in a new HDD if you have one too.

but it didn't notice as it didn't get to that stage of detection
1. Are you sure?
2. If thats right then either the CPU is gone or the motherboard is gone (or the power isnt adequate)

try booting to some external media, such as the windows cd, and see if things run smoothly. Another thing I suggest is called Seagate tools, its a drive diagnostic and you can put on floppy disk, assuming you have a floppy?
Dont think that will work since he's not POSTing...
