woah, 90c is too high, damage starts to occur at around 80-85 i seriously wouldnt keep youi pc on for any longer than it really eeds to be on. Check to see if the heatsink is properly seated.

if you've been running at those temps for a long period of time and dont notice a change in system performacne at all...i would wager that the temp reading is innacurate.

however i would shutdown and re-apply cooling immdeiately.

woah, is that 90c ur cpu temp?
It's wrong, it has to be.

Actually prescotts kill temp is stated at 69C/72.5C depending on the model. Either way that CPU should be a paper weight if it's really that hot. If possible get an external probe to check it.

is it? thats how high it gets using prime95's torture test, its around 44c idle, it used to be around 36c idle when i had my 3ghz pentium 4 cpu, ive upgraded to 3.4 now overclocked to 3.6, are mytemps too high? :(

I wouldn't want to be running into the 60C range, a good aftermarket heatsink like an XP120 might help cool it off but it may not fit.

im using a zalman 90mm heatsink/fan thought they were the best  just checked that heatsink out u mentioned, dont think it supports my lga775 socket  what kinda fan fits on it?

i think it is AI BOOSTER actiing up, the temp is back to normal after a restart. its probably the same program making me thing my dvd burner died on me.

Tried a BIOS update?

Pentium4 530/530J/531 has a kill temp of 67.7ºC
Pentium4 3.0E has a kill temp of 69.0º and 69.1ºC depending on rev

right please someone answer this post before i end up going out to buy the 120mm zalman version of the 90mm version i have now, will getting the 120mm make any difference, ive reseated fan took off thermal paste added it again etc, temps are idling now at 46-48c with my room temp at 27c, i even underclocked the processor down from 3.6 to 3.0 to see if it made any difference, it did not......., i dont get how when i had my old 3.0 cpu overclocked to 3.4 it was idling at 36-40c, now with this new 3.4 one its getting quite high temps, was using the same fan with both, any suggestions pleaseeee...... cheers

The 550 has a higher TDP (115W) as opposed to the 84W of the 530. There has to be more than just clock frequency driving that up. By all means try redoing the thermal paste and such, it doesn't hurt to try befor you go out looking for a better cooling solution.
