My processor is at 127 degrees celcius!

Hey,
i recently changed my cpu heatsink, to Aero 4 lite by Cooler Masters, and it worked like a charm. But then it started to heat up after playin a few games, so i thought id apply some thermal paste, in case there wasnt any.

And i also removed my AGP card, and started runing the pc on intel's extreme graphics, my pc cooled down A LOTT!!
but since 3 days, when i switch it on, after abt 5 mins, the cpu temperature goes up to 127 degrees, at times, -127 degrees, and quicky returns to say 60 or 70. This is celcius not Fahrenhiet im sure.

I gave it to a repair shop and they sed it is my motherboard's prblem, and they say that they have many motherboards like mine that have similar problems, and not to forget, my PC freezes too!

So any help wld be appreciated.

PC config:
Mobo: Intel D865GBF
Processor: Intel P4 2.8 Ghz (HT)
Socket 478

lol, definately a dead temp sensor. What program where you using to report temps, just out of interest..?

its coincidence, i think it would do more than freeze if it was at 127*c... and anyway, CPU's shut themeselves off at way below 127. If its a dead temp sensor, which i expect then chances are the mobo hs taken a bashing and is dodgy, hence the freezes

Most processor's max temps are around 60-80*C I doubt you could even get to windows(assuming you're seeing the temps there) if it was anywhere near that hot...
 
And when you remove the agp card, and play games, it actually puts more of a load on your cpu, so the temps should go up, not down.
 
highest temp i got with the PC working was 91
and it didn't boot windows
just POST and stuff
there is no way it's 127
the fan plastic attached to the heatsink could melt from that heat
 
Ya, you could stick a glass of water on that heatsink and boil it, if it was really that hot. Multi-function heatsinks. :D

well its actually the motherboard that shuts itself off. And this feature can be disabled... and isnt even present on some boards

tell the repair shop they are a set of lying theiving cheats. the Intel D865GBF has little history of overheating... and i boubt he's ever seen more than 3 in his life.

Your temp diode is without any doubt broken. There is no way your cpu would survive at that heat. Next time stick your hand on the heatsink when it tells you it is 127*C, you'll know if it is really that hot because when you remove your fingers there will be a tearing sounds are you pull off the melting burnt skin :)
 
Ya PC repair shops always claim its the motherboard, probably because that is the one part of computer people know the least about.
 
I have an 865PERL and the temp sensors have never been right on it using the program taht came with the mobo. They kept saying that temp zone 2 was 200F!!! and there was no way becuase they would melt the board it got annoying so i uninstalled it and put speedfan on and it read all correctly at a looot lower temp!
 
Hottest i've even beet to is 89c on my 3500, that was when my fan fell off my Evo33 as the thing was stuck on with blue tack:P
Lasted the whole night idling though!
