My question is why?

Now I know that AMD is better for gaming and Intel is better for multi-tasking, but my question is...why? Whats them different to work best running those programs? I'm wondering because im still unsure of which processor to get. Im not going to be doing editing stuff or hardcore gaming (im more of a moderate gamer, but does not need full res in games). I just want a faster computer, faster in day to day apps. I just want something reliable and upgradable in the future. Im just so tied up between the two. Thanks

Mainly im looking at

Thats not completely true, the AMD X2 line is best at gaming and multi-tasking.

If your budget isnt that low, i would highly recommend getting a Dual-Core AMD X2.

well im looking to start with the 3200+ series. I just want to build one first, then after i get some more money upgrade seperate components. Im looking for like 700-800 on th whiole build. This will be my first build

I would go with the AMD A64 3200+, it would be much better in games. It will also do fairly well in multi-tasking due to its Hyper Transport technology. Granted it wont perform as well as the P4, but it will perform well as a cpu until you get a newer one.
