Hi,

Need some help as im about to pull my hair out!!!

Suddenly this week my router stopped working, the connected light was on and going to the routers page showed i was getting a ip etc but in windows it show me as only having a local connection.

So I though the router was broken so i bought another one. This one, put in all my details and it said it was connected and i could use the internet, then a couple of minutes later i only had a local connection yet the router said i had a full connection.

Then i though it must be my computer but ive tried it on three machine two xp and one vista and they all only get a local connection on any router

So i then found the usb modem i got with Virgin and installed that and that works every time!!! I tried it on all computers and it worked but as soon as i go back to the other routers they stop working.

The router has two connection lights, a dsl light and a connection light which is only on when its connected as i tried chanfing the password to a incorrect one and it went out so its def sayin its connected

Anyone know what on earths goin on!???

I would start by resetting both your cable modem, then router.

Do the modem first. Pull the power and let it sit for about 30 seconds. If it has a reset button, push and hold that in while re-connecting the power. Let it cycle and wait until it's finished. Then, do the same thing with the router.

Now, go into your Network Connections via Control Panel, and repair the connection. If all went well, Windows will read the info from the modem and router and re-connect itself.

try one of these:

do you have internet connection or can you tell from the lights that you are getting internet? working router plus no net connection = not internet

you may have to reset the router - pull out the plug and put it back in.

Ive got a modem/router adsl theyve been restarted and reset to factory settings many times. The routers are giving all the signs of being connected such as ips etc and one of the routers give a clear 'you are online' message

there a all one unit its not the router as they all show the same prob apart from the usb one they gave me. Ive linked to them ub wired and wireless
