My system is not booting and new OS installation interrupted

[I am using windowsXP]
Some week before i faced problem in booting me system, at boot time screen get brown nothing happend for a long.

Now, i tried to reinstall OS.
But it has the same problem, ie. at installation time system shows "System is checking Hardware configuration!!" for a while and screen got brown.

Now, I installed RHEL5 and it is successfully installed and working perfectly well.

Now, I again try to install windowsXP but same problem persist and i am not able to install windowsXP again.

Please help me............
 
Have you tested your harddrive for problems?
Download this and create the boot disk required.

I had a maxtor IDE HDD that would accept linux install but didn't even want to entertain the idea of XP due to corruption in the cache ;)
