Ok I have a crappy computer, it's a compaq so i'm sure that gives u an idea. It's a Compaq Presario S4000NX. It's 2.4 Gz and has 376mb ram (i'm going to put another 500 or soehting in it tho. I want to upgrade the video card, but i don't have the brown slot all i have is the white slot which i guess is a pci slot? Do you know what the best video card would be that could go into the pci slot? Or would it not even be worth it, like is the one my computer already better than what i could get? any help would be awesome! thanks! :D

Color really has nothing to do with whether it's a PCI or an AGP. The slot closest to the CPU, usually the uppermost slot when the PC is put together, is going to be the AGP slot, if your computer has one. If it is an AGP slot, than it will be offset (further away from) the back of the case than the other slots in the computer.

All PCI slots:

Check to see which configuration you have.

Try something simple like a Nvidia 6200 or Radeon 9800

you cant get a 9800 or 6200 in PCI format, the highest ati goes i believe is either 9550 or 9250. But if you dont have a brown slot, most likely you just have PCI. Are all the slots the same size, or are some of them different?

so the best that you can really get is the ATI 9250 (128mb or 256mb), there prices vary alot, you cna get one in stores for about $80-$100, or online for under $40.

would that still be better than the one my computer already has?....I have no idea what it has though, it won't tell me :P Must be really bad lol

You are probably running a motherboard with integrated graphics, try and grab a 5700LE to get the best PCI performance (won't be good though). What games do you intend to play?

um my man likes to play doom3 and dawn of war, they are a little choppy though and in doom3 the people have black lines down the middle of them. I play Zootycoon2 which plays alright, but gets choppy. I want to buy the age of empires 3 game. I have the demo and it plays ok, but is choppy too. it also says this when i start the demo...but i just bypass it. I got something like that when i installed dawn of war too, but it still pays pretty good.

Your video hardware is not supported by Age of Empires III.

System information: 2400 MHz, 384 MB, 64 MB 845 (vendorID 8086, deviceID 2562)

I guess i'm really sick of the choppiness and would like that pop up that says my video card sucks to go away :D

ok finally: the fx5500 is NOT the way to go. it has 2 pixel pipelines and 1 vertex shader. the 9250 in that link stinks because it is direct x 8.0, and opengl 1.3. currently directx 9.0c and opengl 2.0 are the most up to date. id get a new rig if i were you, no offense. lol plus celeron d and 384mb ram arent that great either. i take it back theyre HORRIBLE for gaming.

no the fx5500 is not 2 pipes, it is 4pipes, and it is directx9.0
anyway fx5500 is not good video card but it will be much better than 9250.
