My windows vista pc wont start.

when i press the power button (to turn it on) the whole thing lights up and makes the fans work for about 5 seconds... Then it shuts itself off basically and we cant do anything. can someone help?
 
Alright right now ill turn it on and the start button lights up green and the button in the back (that indactes power or not) will lit up then literally a second later the buttton in the back turns off. I checked the external power cord and it is fine. So I think I have narrowed it down after some checks to it being
1. The motherboard.
2. The power supply itself.
3. The power cables within the pc.



Any suggestions for fixing these or testing these? :confused::(

P.S suggestion: putting a good old sledgehammer in it and then dropping it my roof :)

Do you have another PSU you could try? Try resetting the CMOS too. Instructions should all be in that guide I linked you to.

The link says to check beeps.... now it wont even do that... I poped open the pc and turned the pc on and two fans moved for 2 seconds (the processor and motherboard It is a compaq pc with an ASUS motherboard ,which is weird) the computer wont make any noises or anything just the fans.....
 
It will only make noises if an internal speaker is present.

Try taking the PSU out of your working machine and stick it in the dead one and see what it does.

wait... so you want me to unscrew my power supply unit(psu) from my old one and hook it up to my good pc. Could you give me some instructions on how to do this properly?

Turn your PC off.

Unplug all the cables.

Remove the four screws in the back of the case which holds the PSU in.

Carefully lift the PSU out and put it to one side.

Go to your broken PC. Remove the cables from the motherboard and hard drives etc, but leave it screwed in for now.

Take the PSU you just completely removed out of your working machine and just plug all the cables in, don't both screwing it in all neatly.

Connect it to power, see if it turns on.
 
i think ill just either sledge it or take it too a pc shop because we only spent like $400 on it and my personal pc is $2,000.00 pc
