I want to reformat my computer and reinstall winxp pro.
But when i restart my computer my winxp pro cd wont run!
How do i make my cd run automaticaly on startup?

Need help people.

Many thanks :confused::(

Okay can you tell me what kind of BIOs you are working with? You should be looking for something called "boot order" or "boot priority" or something along those lines.

Try to find a screen shot online or something of your BIOS and post it up.

ok rite.. Ive changed it so its booted from the cd.
But then it says booting from the cd in the bios when starting up and says 'press any key to boot from cd' when i press any key it just basically freezes and doesnt boot, just stays on that same screen saying 'press any key to boot from cd'??

Help anyone?

make sure the cd is clean, do you have another operating system disk to try? if you just want to format you can also use linux.

thanks for the reply.
The cd has not one scratch on it its basically brand new. and i havn't got any other cd's.
I dont know what to do :(

To the question above, my keyboard isnt USB its just one that plugs into the purple hole. (sorry im not great on computers at the mo) :D

For you to know, the purple hole is called PS/2.:D
And about the freezing thing, do you have any other bootable CDs? I mean any. A linux distro you got with your PC or something like that. Just to see if the problem is the CD or your BIOS.

When my computer starts up and says 'boot from cd' ' press any key to boot from cd' it doesn't exactly freeze because the little curser line thing after were it says 'press any key to boot from cd' is still flashing... but when i press any key or just leave it then it just stays like that, but doesnt exactly freeze.
I havn't got any more bootable cd's sorry, but im sure that this xp cd works though it must be something i am going wrong but im not sure what it is.

Press enter when that message appears. That's what you have to do. And then the blue screen (not of death :D) with the windows installer should appear.

Thanks for the reply, il restart now and press Enter and see if it works.
If it works il be reinstalling my pc meaning i wont reply for a while but if it doesn't work then il be posting back here telling you the outcome.
Thanks

'Enter' Doesn't work either!
Non of the keys do infact i don't think.
Is there some settings i have to change in the BIOS or something to make it work, thats the only thing i can think of.
Any suggestions? I really need my computer reformating and a fresh copy of winxp installed.
Thanks.

Get ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com), burn to a cd with Magic ISO or PowerISO or Nero Burning ROM (select Open and select the .iso file you'll download), then boot from it, just like with the xp disk. First you will be asked to select a language. Try selecting one with the arrows. Then select the first option to boot from the live cd. It will open Ubuntu (linux distribution) and you'll be able to use it, just like windows. It's on a CD, so you don't need to install it, unless you want linux instead of windows :D.

Will the keyboard work in the language selection menu? or in ubuntu?

Hay,

I duno if i know what u mean?
I want to reformat and wipe my system clean and start over again with my windows xp pro cd... I don't want linux.
Or have i read your paragraph wrong?
Sorry im not a 'wizzkid' on computers

Ubuntu is a linux distribution. It's free, you don't need to buy it.
And no, you won't install it on your PC. You will only try the Live CD (this means that you can use it straight from the CD, without installing, or without doing any change to your computer; when you want to get back to windows you restart, eject the cd and you will boot from windows as usual). This is just to test your keyboard.
