Id try the linux disk... you have to burn it to an ISO... Im sure someone smarter than me can explain to you how to burn an ISO image... I think theres a program called ISO burn.... Id go with chibicitiberiuäs advice
you can download www.ubuntu.com look for the live cd, download imgburn (program)
its free and very easy to use,
Then just use the cd as you have been with the xp cd and it will boot into a live system where you wont need to install anything
