my winxp is screwed up

so i got a laptop as a gift a while back, has xp on it. well probably a week after i got it a friend went to a warez site on it and got a nasty virus. well 2 days later i finally got th virus off but a few of my files are still altered. specifically some of my IE files.. anytime i use google.com or yahoo.com it redirects me to some arab site. i can access all the yahoo stuff, like games.yahoo.com will work fine, its only when i try to go the the home page it is messed up.. i have run virus scan adaware all that bs nothing fixes it
 
you may just have to reinstall :(
Just another reason to not even try warez.
If you can, download Avast (avast.com) and install it. Once installed, Go to the avast main menu (it looks like an eject button) and choose schedual (sp)boot-time scan. If a message asks you to restart your computer, choose yes. If not just restart your computer manually. When it restarts, it will start to scan your hdd for viruses. I've never found one like this, so I on't know what will happen when you do.

You have a browser hijacker. Download, install, and update these programs....adaware SE, spybot - search and destroy, 14 day trial of Ewido security suite. If you aren't already running these, you will be amazed at what they find.
 
Also check your add/remove programs for anything that shouldnt be there as well as your startup items (msconfig). You can manually change your homepage back after cleaning out the trash.
