Hello. I am new to this forum. My question is my Gateway laptop is having trouble starting. I emailed Gateway and they had me take out the battery, unplug the AC cord and then unplug the memory and plug it backin, wait one half hour and then plug the battery and AC cord back in and it should boot. Well, it didnt so I gave unplugging what I think is the on-board wireless card and also the hard drive, then without waiting one half hour I put the battery back in and the AC cord in and it turned on.I let it set charging over night and now I cannot get it to turn on by doing any of the above. Any ideas as to what I can try next.

PS I jsut graduated from college, so I bought 60 gig external HD to dump all my inportant files on and now this. Go figure!

If you are un-sure about what you are doing, get someone to have a look at it for you, a technician.

Was the laptop brand new or re-furbished?

Re-furbished laptops seem a sweet deal, until the components bust a few months later.

It may just be the power supply.

If you are storing important files, then I would suggest backing them up in one form or another. Burning the files to CD or DVD is the easiest method.

(Backing up information on hard drives isn't always a very reliable method)

One more thing, do not open up the laptop unless you know exactly what you are doing. Also, check the warranty.

(P.S any warranty will most likely be voided if the laptop is opened)

If the laptop doesn't run on the AC chord then you know it isn't a fault in the battery. (Sometimes the batteries die from heavy use)

When you say it won't turn on, do you mean the Laptop literally has no life in it or it just won't boot up windows?
