My XFX 7900GT went bad, I was offered 7900GS or the 8600GTS

Hey,

My XFX 7900 GT went bad on me, so I sent it in and they offered me three choices...

the 7900 GS (600MHz card) - they said it outperforms my current card
the 8600 GTS (DX10 Compatible) - they didn't say much other than that
and they offered me the 8800 GTS (320mb version) if I wanted to pay $100 extra.

I'm not willing to pay the extra $100 for the upgrade, so which out of the top two should I pick? DX10 would be nice, but I need to keep performance in mind too. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I see the overall user ratings of the 7900GS are better, but is that what your talking about when you say the choice should clear? It looks like some of the numbers of the 8600 GTS are better. I'm still having trouble seeing what you are saying. What is the clear choice?

The choice isn't that clear, lol. Anyways the 8600gts is the card card you should get. It compares with the 7900gt in DX9 games and has DX10 support too.

what about the memory bus difference...
8600GTS is only 128bit, while the 7900GS is 256bit

Also... memory bandwith
8600GTS is 32GB/sec, while the 7900GS is 42.24GB/sec

Are these just minor differences?

Yeah pretty minor, I bet you will notice in newer games. The 8600GTS is more prepared for the newer games, like vertex operations are upped, they have adapted the 8600GTS.
