Ok, so I am finally going to move from Athlon XP to AMD 64! :D

It's going to be for quite a bit of gaming, some audio recording and word processing.

This is what I have decided to build:

====================
CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535
$166
====================
Motherboard:
MSI K8N Neo4-F ATX AMD Motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130491
$82
====================
RAM:
Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220037
$80
====================
Hard Disk Drive:
HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722516DLAT80 160GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145091
$77
====================
Graphics Card:
MSI Geforce 6800 NX6800-TD128E Video Card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127179
$173
====================
PSU:
COOLER MASTER Real Power RS-450-ACLX 450W Power Supply

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817171005
$67
====================

Don't worry about the case...

Any comments about if I should change anything...?

Thanks.

looks good, but what type of games do you plan on playing?
the regualar 6800 might not be sufficient."for a long time anyways" go for a 6800 GT.

everything else looks pretty good

whats your price range?

Looks pretty good, but i would go with these instead:

ABIT KN8 SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - $109
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127225
Better motherboard overall, better for overclocking, SLI is there if you want it, and SATAII

SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series HD160JJ 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $81
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152020
Around 370MBps instead of IDE's 133MBps, and not much more money.

connect3D 3038 Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI-E Video Card - $179
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814142052
Much better clockspeeds, OpenGL 2.0, and flashable to x850xt pe (if you wanted to do that)

Rambo, you've got to rememeber that they're US prices too, so buying them in the UK will be more expensive.

Thats why I'm buying it in the US... It's far much cheaper...:P I have a sister out in Texas that is coming over for christmas so I figured she could bring the components along with her.

Thanks geoff, that's really helpful! :) I'll definately go with your suggestions! The graphics card you mentioned I don't know too much about, so what exactly are the differences between them (i dont have much time here, at a friends house so I cant check)? But the HDD, good suggestion! And the motherboard, I'll take your word for it :D

Well, beside that fact, it is still better than the 6800. Is it not?

yes it is, here is a quick comparison between the 2:

6800 - 350Mhz Core / 600Mhz Memory / 12 Pipelines / 256-Bit / 128MB / OpenGL 1.5 /

x800gto - 400Mhz Core / 980Mhz Memory / 12 Pipelines / 256-Bit / 256MB / OpenGL 2.0

And its cheaper.

Thanks Praetor! I dunno what to do now...

I'm tempted to go with your idea Praetor as the CPU is better, and the HDD. The major changes are the mobo and the video card... Out of those motherboards, which is better? And out of the video cards, which is better? I see that the Radeon X800GTO has higher clock speeds and more RAM on it, but would it make a difference? The X800Pro is much cheaper which is better.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Please reply,

Tim.
