in mozilla firefox every web address i attempted to visit, i got redirected to api.mybrowserbar.com and it seems to be rectified now but if it comes back does anyone know how to stop this? ive also my CPU has shot upto 100% and stays there after the installation of "Ranger Remote control" i have taken it off but still stays the same and everything is slow, Avira hasnt detected any viruses. :eek:
 
Start here.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here, here, here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
Not to vent to you though, but I just want people to be aware thats it takes more than an antivirus to make sure your computer is clean in todays times. Malware is made to get past antivirus programs. People think just because they have an antivirus program installed that they can't be infected.

but all the files seem to still be there, did prompt me for a restart

If you look at my post it said to just do a scan and don't fix anything yet.

Then click on fix checked at the bottom. Reboot and then let me know how its running and if you are still being redirected.
 
ok, i clicked on the entries and had them removed. I restarted my machine, did another scan and it seems as if no change has been made to the list. All the entries are still there
 
Ok, you don't understand how hijackthis works. It will only remove what entries i had you remove. Please post a fresh hijackthis log.

You must not have followed my instructions, cause it should have remove all those entries i listed in that post. Did you get any errors when you followed my instructions?
 
nope, i tick selected all the entries you said and then i clicked "Fix Checked" i then had a "fix selected items" notice, i clicked yes and finally a "hijackthis is about to remove a BHO and the corresponding file from your system" notice which i pressed ok, the list went blank but when i rescanned, all of the entries including the ones you told me to delete came back
 
ok then. lets try another approach.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
also, i keep getting this windows installer window plus another window saying about installing Search settings v1.2.3 i thought it was a virus so i killed it, im really scared that my machine is severely infected
 
Sometimes that happens when you get infected or windows becomes corrupted. Did you by chance install this program on your own?

If you have not installed that then delete that folder under program files or see if there is an option to remove it under add/remove programs.
I also see that you have bittorrent installed, if you have been downloading with this then most likely this is how you are getting infected. Now that combofix has been ran, try reapplying those hijackthis fixes again and post a fresh hijackthis log afterwards.
 
well all my bit torrent downloads are all on my external HD, which i have scanned, no results. and that screensaver is a tad embarassing, installed it myself XD will remove it.
