Hey people,
I just started using Myspace, but now my dad has blocked the site because he thinks that its "bad for the computer." Has anybody ever heard that myspace is bad?

well im not sure about myspace.com, but sites very similar to it can install spyware and viruses on your computer if you dont have any protection. Your dad is probably right but is being over-protective, if you get some anto-spyware and anti-virus software then you should be all set. And just be careful not to click on messages that pop up.

Yeah, my house is pretty much loaded w/ antispyware, a firewall, etc. I don't even get pop-ups because of all the pop-up blockers that we have

Well it can put spyware and/or viruses on your computer, i think thats what he was referring to.

Yeah, that's what my dad's worrying about.

To help me argue my point, my dad plays a lot of those yahoo games, do you think that they can cause harm to the computer? (I'm not allowed to have aim either because of this)

He either doesnt know much about spyware or hes being over-protective. Installing AIM is fine, but not the new one since it comes with many other programs that you cant choose not to install. You can get an older copy from www.download.com. And he probably has the same chance of getting spyware as you do from installing aim.

AIm is not fine, read the agreement, not the enw one's anyways, get the AIM 4.8 or lower.

That's like saying quicktime or itunes is fine, read the agreement.

and Yahoo games would NOt be a spyware risk at all.

I don't think it would mbe myspace itself, but what people put ON there myspace, and all the html code they put it from website's without knowing what it does.

I doubt it has anything worse than all the ads on it, its a big site, so it would be hard for them to get away with putting bad things on your computer.
They find tricky ways to get spyware on your computer, many ways will be pop-ups that say something like "your computer is infected! run a scan now", and then it will install crap to your computer.

That's not entirly safe either, because of all of those Myspace eidter sites, where you copy and paste code to maek something cool for your site, and popups and other mmalacois code can be included and since they no nothing about html they dont know.

It can also be bad for your comp (you never know what sh*t you can find on certain sites) and i would have to agree that it can't be good for your brain.
