Mysterious cell phone charging

I now notice it's harder to charge my Huawei Mercury from my apartment, but that's not the mystery. The mystery is that I now find it much easier to charge up my phone from the car.

Can anyone offer an explanation for this?

haven't ever used anything other than Nokia's [i admit i'm a nokia fanboy, ditched Android for Belle lol] (6681-->N73-->N97-->E7-->Lumia 920) but i had a similar problem with my N73, a long long time back. Turned out it was a bad wall charger. Replaced the charger and the issue was instantly resolved.
Worth a shot. If you can, borrow a charger from a friend and check if that helps. And avoid using generic chargers, they kill the battery. Use chargers that are sold by the device manufacturer.

Had the same problem with my htc wall charger only because i left it plugged in all the time, bought a new one and alls fine

Yeah, it definitely sounds like the wallcharger is dying. I think it's not less durable than the car charger, it's just I bet the wallcharger gets used more than the car charger.

try using another receptacle. Damaged or starting to short charger is dangerous. I brought up the receptacle because of a cheap one or possible loose connection. If charging in the car works i say its one or the other i mentioned.

Though it could be a component breakdown in the charger.

As an update, I heard a buzzing/hissing sound which was coming from the wall charger. Unplugged it from the extension cord and replugged it into another part of the extension cord. The buzzing sound is gone (at least for now).

To get it replaced at the Cricket store would cost around $75 (more than my car battery charger). My friend may have a spare wall charger he'd let me have for free.

I'm still in the middle of checking my current wall charger.

Laptop chargers will cost about that much but not cellphone chargers. You can buy the cheap ones for around $15 at Walmart.

I don't doubt your word. Before I posted on this today, I was at Cricket a few days ago and told the girl that my battery was having difficulty charging up (thought it was a battery problem). She tested it and said the battery was fine.

Apparently she's not too familiar with wall chargers so I have a choice between Walmart or my friend's charger. The problem is solved.
