Mysterious Memory Error

I've been cleaning up my girlfriends computer and there's one problem left I can't figure out. She gets a memory error at start up and shut down. I've reseated the RAM and it didn't help, ran MemTest86 and it passed with no errors. Any ideas on what to try next?

It's a Compaq Presario SR1520NX with 512mb PC3200 RAM running XP Home Service Pack 2.

Memory error is: The instruction at "0x0012e3f1" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written".

Probably a app messing you about. Have you tried booting up in safe mode and shutting down to see if it still gives you the error message?

If the system passed a few memtest passes chances are pretty good that the RAM is fine. That error should tell you the name of the offending program in the title bar. Once you know the name, you can either try and update it or remove/disable it if it's not needed.
