Thinking of setting up an old system to use as an HTPC,I was looking into this linux distro called Mythtv?

From what ive seen,It looks fantastic and will do what i want it to such as record tv,store my movies,Skip through adverts etc.

But ive only seen peeople use this with actual TV tuner cards that are installed inside their systems,Anyone know if it will work for a USB tv tuner card?

this one to be exact?

They have their own forums at MythTV's site and their own compatibility list. I would say your chances are 50/50 maybe it all depends on driver support really.

I would check out the project page for the best info

www.mythtv.org

Mythtv is amazing! Very easy to setup with some knowledge of linux going into it. As for your tuner, I agree its about 50/50 or some features may not work exactly as you would like, but look at their list of working tuners and you should get it working.

okay guys anyone know of any other os thats good as a media centre?

so far ive come across

Linux MCE
mythtv

and for windows....MediaPortal

i do have a valid xp cd i could use too,if mediaportal was the only way.

My vote would be for the Linux side, but you would have to learn how to use Linux which is not hard, but some people lack the patience of learning it. However, when you finally do learn it you benefit a lot from knowing it.
