updated everything, its a new set up (motherboard, memory, graphicd card processor) etc only 4 weeks old. but game still the same?

Unless you actually updated or built the PC yourself, I would not trust that everything is up to date.

I know the game says it works with win XP, but try running it in "compatibility" mode anyhow. Goto the icon (shortcut) for the game and right click then goto properties. Then click on the compatibility tab and try setting it too 98 or 95.

Make sure if you have any usb devices in (especialy thumb drives) that you unplug them for a bit while you test the game. Also If you built this PC yourself make sure that you installed the chipset drivers and that Direct X is updated.

Also sometimes with these older games, It does not hurt to actually set your desktop color to 16-bit color. Run the game like this and see if issues still persist.
