Nec 3.0

How do I know if a motherboard comes with a NEC 3.0 chip? I want to buy a motherboard with onboard USB 3.0 but I need the mobo to have a NEC 3.0 chip...as of this hour it's the first time I've ever heard of it...

Does anyone know what these are? If so...is it easily detectable beforehand if the mobo has one installed along with a USB 3.0 slot with it?

My ASUS P7P55D-E board has an NEC USB 3.0 controller, I think most of the ASUS boards do. What socket board are you looking for? USB 3.0 is the successor to USB 2.0, it's ten times faster but it's only worthwhile if you have devices which support it. NEC is just a manufacturer of the controller, there are likely dozens of other manufactures you can choose from which will do the same as the NEC. If you want USB 3.0 just get a board with USB 3.0.

Not sure if I'd describe USB 3.0 as "badass" yet - but you know it's nice to have for future-proofing.

Errr, I didn't call the USB 3.0 badass...I said I want to purchase a PC that is badass that can use the hardware I want [BMIS] that uses the pissy USB 3.0 sockets.

Oh right ok but yeah just get a USB 3.0 motherboard. If you want it to be truly badass wait for Ivy Bridge to come out and get a Z77 board when they come out because then you can use PCI Express 3.0 graphics cards.
