Friend of mine dropped off her LCD monitor. After about 1 or 2 hours the monitor just turns off and wont go back on.. If you keep playing with the buttons it will turn on and work fine. Cords are all fine, Nothing is broke or loose. Its only 2 years old. Any tips on what I should check?

what is the model? i have the NEC multisync 70GX2, and it does have a few issues with some of the buttons. not to say it isnt a great monitor, it has the best color reproduction of any monitor i have viewed so far, its just that occassionally, the power button has issues (not sensitive any more, or it misinterprets some clicks)

Also, it may just be that the backlight is failing. Can you see anything at all on the display? Or does the display completely power off (no power light either)?

Note: It will be very dark without the backlight, but you should be able to see something if just the backlight went out.

yeah you can tell if the backlight has gone out by shining light into the screen. the light goes in, gets its spectrum changed by the pixels, bounces back out of the LCD, and you can kind of see it. at least that was the logic behind old game-boy lcd's lol.

but an easier solution would just be to check the on/off light on the power button.

I have the monitor back, I dont know the model. It completely turns it self off when It does it. I thought it was the back light my self but it turns out I think its the power supply.
